Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Special Adviser on Mineral Resources, has issued a stop-work order to Tipper Drivers in the Ibeshe area of Ikorodu due to the negative effects of their activities on the environment and residents in the area.
The directive follows numerous complaints from residents of the communities and stakeholders within and around Ibeshe about the deplorable state of the main road and environmental concerns caused by heavy-duty truck operations.
The Special Adviser, Engineer Abiola Olowu disclosed that the stop-work order is to address the issue of environmental degradation, pollution, road infrastructure deterioration, and safety hazards caused by heavy-duty trucks and tipper drivers in the area.
Olowu, who spoke through the Chief Geologist from the Solid Mineral Department, Geologist Rasaq Agbalaya during the visit by the officials of the ministry to enforce the order, emphasised the importance of environmental sustainability and public safety to the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
The Special Adviser maintained that the stop-work order will remain effective until comprehensive measures are implemented to address environmental concerns.
He urged owners of heavy-duty trucks and tipper drivers to always ensure compliance with government orders just as he also encouraged residents to report any non-compliance or environmental violations.
Olowu added that the State Government remains committed to fostering sustainable development, promoting environmental conservation, and enhancing residents’ quality of life through strategic policies and initiatives.
