The boat mishap that occurred last night along the lbeshe/Ikorodu channel en route Ipakodo in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has recorded three casualties.
According to the report gathered, a total number of 14 passengers boarded the 20 – capacity Oluwaseyifunmi boat which took off from the Addaz Jetty, Lagos.
11 passengers were said to have been rescued during the incident that occured around 7.17pm, as local boat operators from Ibeshe jetty were said to have been the first responders and were later joined by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) team.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for LASWA, Wuraola Alake, in a statement, confirmed the incident, stating that her agency and all the first responders took the recused passengers to Ibeshe terminal,
She also stated that the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and the State Environmental Health Management Unit (SEHMU) have been alerted about the incident.
“At about 7.17pm today (Monday), the 26th of February, 2024, a 20 – passenger capacity boat named Oluwaseyifunmi, loaded with 14 passengers involved in an accident along the Ibeshe/Ikorodu Channel en route Ebute – Ipakodo Ikorodu, after taking off from Addaz jetty, Lagos”, she said.
“Local boat operators from Ibeshe were the first responders, LASWA team joined immediately in the rescue operations as 22 passengers were rescued with three casulaties recorded”.
“Further search and rescue operations were still ongoing as at the time of this report”, she added.
