A total of 150 bags of 50kg rice have been shared to residents of Kosofe, Agboyi-Ketu, and Ikosi-Isheri whose communities were ravaged by flood in 2023.
The food items were in fulfilment of the promise by the donor, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, to provide succor for the communities affected by flood last year.
Mr. Enitan Olukotun, Media Aide to Senator Abiru, revealed in a statement last night, that Otunba Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle, PhD, on behalf of the Senator and in the presence of notable political and community leaders, APC LGA Chairmen in the three LG/LCDAs, led by the Chair of Chairs, Hon Sunday Odekomaya and East Consultative Forum, ECF Coordinators, Captain and Secretaries from the three LGA/LCDAs, handed over the bags of rice to the Council Chairmen – Hon. Dele Oshinowo, Agboyi-Ketu, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, Ikosi-Isheri and Hon Moyosore Ogunlewe, Kosofe LGA.
“The affected areas, where the bags of rice were shared included: Odo-Ogun, Ajegunle, Owode-Elede, Osho-Ogun, Agboyi-town, all under Agboyi- Ketu LCDA. In Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, some affected residents residing in Agiliti 2, Maidan, Orisha/Isheri , Ajegunle/ Idera/ Kiokio, Isheri- North and Akinpelu communities”, he said.
“Meanwhile, in Kosofe Local Government Area, residents of Oworo coastal area and Ogudu, Ojota, Mende areas, who were adversely impacted by floods, got the bags of rice”, he added.
Olukotun also stated that the distributions were done in collaboration with the three council authorities whose communities under their jurisdiction were affected as well as political leaders and community Development Committees (CDC).
“In ensuring that the bags of rice got to the affected persons, the office of the Senator, in alliance with the three Local Government Authorities, community and political leaders and the leadership of the Community Development Committee (CDC), collaborated to distribute the rice”, Sentor Abiru’s media aide said.
“This humanitarian intervention is one of the many kind gestures by Senator Abiru to his constituents, particularly vulnerable members of the society. Every quarter, thousands of households across the 16 LGAs/ LCDAs in the Lagos East Senatorial District benefit from his quarterly Food Packs Programme.
“The council chairmen, one after another, expressed gratitude to the distinguished Senator for his empathy and kindness towards the people, particularly during this challenging economic period”, he stated.
