The overall best student in Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH) for the 2022/23 session, Master Ogunbiyi Jubril Olamilekan, a 200 level Accounting student in the Department of Accounting, College of Applied Social Sciences, has attributed his excellence performance to the need to be great in life, having come from an average background.
Ogunbiyi, who emerged as the institution’s scholar with a reward of free tuition announced by the institution and N75, 000 as scholarship by Prof. Adebisi Balogun of the College of Agriculture, also pointed at his strict focus on academics and fatherly roles of his lecturers.
The LASUSTECH scholar spoke with THE IMPACT, at the inaugural founder’s day of the institution, on Friday.
“I am elated. I am very happy. The struggle paid off eventually. I am really grateful to God and to my parents for giving me the opportunity to be here today”, he said.
“First, my family is a major factor that propelled my performance. I come from an average background and it is noted that you need to strive to get up there. That, from the onset, you need to strive and also focus.
“We all have different focuses in higher institution. It’s about what you focused on; it’s about your goal and where you are aiming at”.
While also commending his lecturers for their impacts on his excellence performance, Ogunbiyi thanked the institution and the scholarship donor, for the gestures.
“And our lecturers, they have been really lecturing us perfectly and absolutely well. They have been taking us as children and not as students. The relationship between us and them have been very well”, he said.
“I am really grateful and really appreciate this in this time of financial crisis. I really appreciate it. I hope to keep striving to continue to be at the top”.
