-Supports retired staff with food palliatives
The management of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has assured their pensioners that they will start getting the increment on salaries as approved by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, starting from January 2024.
At the first meeting of the year with the pensioners, held at the LAWMA Zonal office, Rowe Park, Lagis, on Tuesday, the senior citizens thanked the management of LAWMA, and offered special prayer for the management for positive turn of events in caring for them.
About 350 pensioners in attendance were presented with bags containing food items – rice, garri, semovita, vegetable oil and salt, as palliatives.
Mr Abiodun Shitta, the LAWMA Unit Head, who represented the management at the meeting, commended the pensioners for the understanding, adding that the LAWMA, under the leadership of Dr.Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, will continue to prioritise their welfare.
He announced that approval has been given to effect the salary increment promised them by the Governor.
“Mr Governor has also increased money being paid to pensioners. The increment is designed in such a way that those receiving little salaries at the moment gets more percentage increment and by extension, they will be getting more than what they are getting every month”, he said.
“The approval was just released and we will not be able to effect it on the January payment, but I can assure that starting from February, we will be effecting the increment and you will also receive your arrears”, Mr Shitta added.
Also speaking on the contentious 33%, the LAWMA staff assured those yet to get theirs of receiving their money which he said has been approved by the MD.
“On the 33% percent, we have tried to ensure that those yet to receive it will get it soon, only that the Governor just signed the budget. As my responsibility, I have prepared necessary details and my boss has signed it, only that the LAWMA, as a state agency, cannot spend any money at the moment.
“But I am assuring you that by next month, we will all have cause to rejoice and announce the receipt of our payment”.
On behalf of LAWMA, Shitta also announced that the December package which is a food palliative to support the pensioners, would be presented to them at the meeting.
“As you were assured last time, we are going to give you the December gifts that we promised, today, which is the palliative that the LAWMA is supporting you with as part of our support for the government in cushioning the economic effects on every Lagosians”.
The LAWMA pensioners, led by its Chairman, Prince Adewole, thanked the State Government and LAWMA management, for the support for them, over time.
