-Commission Youths’ new secretariat
The Special Adviser, DAWN Commission & South West Integration, Hon. Olanrewaju Sunmi Odesanya, and a host of other dignitaries joined youths in his childhood neighbourhood, in celebrating their anniversary and commissioning of a new secretariat.
The Olubi Youth Forum, which was founded in 2009, held its anniversary on Thursday, January 4, 2023, on OIubi Street which hosted one of the significant monuments in Ikorodu Division – the Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu.
Commissioning the youths’ secretariat, Hon. Sunmi Odesanya, who was a former lawmaker who represented the Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, congratulated the Olubi youths on their anniversary and the new secretariat.
He commended them for their organization and collective efforts in advancing their forum and the community.
Sunmi, who is the Grand Patron of the youth group, said that he will continue to mentor and guide them into becoming good ambassadors of not just Olubi, but the entire Ikorodu.
In his new year message to Ikorodu populace, Sunmi appealed that people should not lose hope, rather, he enjoined Nigerians to be hopeful while assuring that President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope policy will turn around the country and bring about social harmony and economic prosperity.
The former lawmaker also assured Lagosians that the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo – Olu will advance the state’s infrastructures and bring about socio – economic developments in the state.
Mrs Oluremi Surutu, a popular Nollywood actress, also commended the Olubi youths for their capacity to bring themselves together while charging them to make themselves envy of other youths by developing good characters and initiatives that will bring progress to their community and Ikorodu in general.
The actress also enjoined the youths to promote peace and unity, and ensure that Olubi area is positively revered.
She pledged to visit their secretariat once in a while and support the body.
The General Commandant, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL), Akogun Lanre Olabinjo, expressed his surprise and at the same time, happiness at the development in Olubi.
He charged that the unity and peace in Olubi should be sustained by ensuring that youths in the area are productively engaged.
Akogun Lanre also charged the political leaders in Ikorodu, to give support to youths in the community, and empower them to be independent.
The head of the local vigilance group also congratulated the forum.
Mr Adepoju Waliu, speaking with THE IMPACT, said that the Olubi Youth Forum was formed in 2009, but has been unstable since then until now.
He said that the forum is galvanizing the youths in the community towards self-development and community growth.
“Olubi Youth Forum is all about the search for the prosperity of the youths of Olubi area in Ward B in Ikorodu Local Government”, he said.
“We are trying as much as possible to provide welfare and positively engage out youths. Today, we are launching our new base (secretariat) and celebrating our anniversary”.
He promised members of the public that more should be expected from the group in terms of empowering members
“Ikorodu people should be expecting more from Olubi Youths. We are trying to develop ourselves within Olubi by ensuring that our members are empowered”, he said.
“Olubi Youth Forum is trying to engage youths and reverse the trend of youths wandering around without doing anything”.
