Individual players that show exceptional qualities in the ongoing 15th edition of the Gafaar Bolowotan Memorial Gold Cup, will be honoured with gift items starting from the second round of preliminary matches, which commence today.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday, on the tournament’s platform.
Formidable FC will play host to the Deluxe FC in the first match of the day which kicks – off 2pm, while Amazing United FC will play against the Perfect Touch FC in the second match at 4pm.
The matches will be played at the Police Barracks Playing Ground, Ikorodu.
“We are pleased to announce to you that starting from the 2nd round of preliminary matches, we will be honoring the best individual performance with the player of the match award”, the statement said.
“The man of the match, as generally known, will receive gift items and certificates, while also standing a chance to be part of the team of the tournament.
“The award is sponsored by Ikorodu City Football Club, emphasizing the club’s management’s commitment to the development of grassroots football in Ikorodu division, and her readiness to constantly engage the local fan base and community at large.
“Congratulations to prospective winners”, the statement added.
So far in the tournament which started December 2023, with nine matches played in the first round of the preliminary stage, according to the LOC records, only MATTHEW AJAYI of PERFECT TOUCH FC has scored more than a goal in a match as he netted a brace when his team beat Kareem FC 4-1.
Also, IHAOCHA OF ABLAZE FC is the only player to have been red carded so far in the tournament.
Twenty-five (25) goals have been scored so far by only 24 players from 14 teams.
Thirty -five (35) yellow cards have been issued with OPOPO ONA IWA MIMO FC and FC VICTORY ONE getting the highest with four (4) each.
