-Rotaract Club commends GH Ikorodu
The Ikorodu royal family continued the tradition of welcoming new babies every January 1, as His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, eminent personalities and groups joined the General Hospital (GH), Ikorodu, in welcoming the First Babies in the new year.
The first in Ikorodu for 2024, a female, was born by Mrs Mosunmola Awodeinde, 36 years old, at 12:05am, while Mrs Ahmed Khadijat, 29 years old, delivered the second baby, a boy, at 12:10am and Mrs Fagbemi Omoshalewa, 41 years old, delivered third baby, also a boy, at 1:27am.
Others joining the GH Ikorodu team led by Dr Taiwo Hassan, Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, to welcome and celebrate the newborns, were Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Asipa of Ikorodu and the Chief Learning Officer (CLO), Kith & Kin Educational Schools, Mr Rotimi Akeem Erogbogbo, Chairman, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Prince (Barr.) Adeleke Aroyewun, President, Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden among others.
Cash and various gift items were donated to the mothers of the First Thee Babies and other mothers at the Children Ward of the GH Ikorodu, during the visit, as the Ayangbure and his entourage going round the wards to congratulate and wish them well.
Oba Shotobi, speaking with journalists after the ward tour, said that the first day of the year visit, aside from using it to celebrate new babies, he also use it to measure the performance of the GH Ikorodu and rate the facility.
“It is a tradition that we normally witness every year. We come here to witness the performances of the doctors and nurses and what they have been able to do to justify our trust”, Ayangbure said.
“We also come to celebrate the First Baby of the year and give thanks to the Almighty God, for blessing us in Ikorodu. We are manufacturing babies here (in General Hospital, Ikorodu). You can see that we have more than 10 boys and just one girl. It was reversal of what we had last year. I am happy and delighted”.
The royal father commended the Governor, MD and staff of the GH Ikorodu, for maintaining the standard and delivering quality health care for the people of Ikorodu.
“The value of this hospital is appreciating all the time. I have been here to see what they are doing and I am giving my personal touch and recommendation to the public. I am representing my people here”, Oba Shotobi said.
“I am saying it with all honesty that the doctors and nurses are doing wonderfully well and the hospital is well kept. I can vouch that this hospital can be compared with any other anywhere and it will rank among the first three if not the first.
“I want to commend the doctors, MD and people that are making the hospital looks neat and well kept.
“I thank the Governor for giving them necessary tools to perform and aiding them to perform. Lagos State is not looking down on the health sector, they are performing”, the royal father said.
The Medical Director, GH, Ikorodu, Dr Taiwo Hassan, in his own interview with the press, said that the facility has been delivering competent and adequate services to Ikorodu since its inception and this, according to him, has earned it several awards.
“The intention of this hospital is plto provide quality services in good time through our professionals for the citizens and inhabitants of Ikorodu Division”, he said.
“We have kept the promise since the last 40 years that this hospital has been established. In the history of Safe Care, which is an international award resident in Holland, there has been no hospital in Nigeria that has ever won two major awards, but General Hospital in Ikorodu, won two major awards last year.
“We have also several awards. We won the Service Charter award consecutively between 2014 and 2020”, he added.
Prince Adeleke Aroyewun, President, Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden, in his remarks, thanked the hospital and the royal father for the opportunity availed to his club to be part of the annual event.
He commended the GH Ikorodu, for its excellent service delivery, while also congratulating mothers that delivered babies in the new year.
