Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the eve of 31st December 2023 led residents in the countdown celebration for the new year at the Sol Beach, Oniru, one of the locations of the just concluded #GreaterLagosFiesta, to create a memorable start for 2024.
The countdown to the new year, according to the Governor, was observed simultaneously, at four other locations of the #Greater Lagos Fiesta, namely Ikorodu, Badagry, Epe, and Agege. He was represented at these locations by top government officials who led other fun seekers into the New Year in a festive and celebratory spirit.
Some of the major artistes that performed at the beach are Davido, Olamide, Tuface and others.
Expressing his gratitude to residents of Lagos State at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu thanked the people for their unwavering support throughout 2023 and promised to continue improving the lives of the citizens in the coming year.
The Governor maintained that the event, which aimed to promote culture and entertainment, was a resounding success as there were no reports of security breaches in all the locations where the three-day event took place.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the countdown as a spectacular showcase of Lagos as the entertainment hub of Africa.
“We’re committed to celebrating bigger wins in 2024. Here’s to more Grammy nominations & celebrations, accelerated businesses, and greater success for our vibrant city and its residents.
“As we reflect on the amazing energy of yesterday’s event, I’m thrilled about the future of Lagos. Let’s continue to shine and celebrate together, creating more opportunities and growth for everyone,” the Governor said.
The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka said that the fiesta provided platforms for both local and international artists to showcase their talents, leaving the audience in awe of their skill and creativity.
