The contractor handling the construction of the Igbogbo Stadium, has started laying the synthetic pitch on the surface of the standard pitch, in the quest to meet the January 6, delivery date.
The Director – General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Prince Toyin Gafaar (Bolowotan) had, at the opening match of the 15th edition of the Gafaar Bolowotan Gold Cup holding at the Police Barracks Playing Ground, informed THE IMPACT, that the contractor has January 6 delivery date to complete and handover the sporting facility in Igbogbo.
The construction of the Igbogbo Stadium, which is expected to have a basket and other courts, as well as an event hall with 1800 sitting capacity, commenced last year.
When our reporter visited the stadium on Saturday, December 30, 2023, the contractor had commenced the covering of the stadium pitch surface with green synthetic turf.
Doors to offices, changing rooms and stadium stand from behind, have also been fixed and under locks and key, but nothing is happening on the track yet except the hard surface.
Prince Gafaar, a few days back, hinted that the five stadiums that are under construction and reconstruction across the state, will be ready by January 2024, and that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, will commission them in February.
“By January, we are going to complete the Igbogbo stadium and others across the state”, he said recently.
“The stadium is meant for every part of Ikorodu division to make use of, and it is going to be the only facility around this area with track which is deliberate. The stadium will have a basketball court and other facilities.
“The plan is to have all the five stadiums – Igbogbo, Agege, Ifako Ijaiye, Teslim Balogun in Surulere and Gbagada, commissioned by February.
“The deadline for the completion of the Igbogbo and Agege is January 7th, and that of Ifako is January 13th and by January 20th, all the stadiums are expected to be completed and delivered”, Prince Gafaar added.
