A total of 63 students were presented with the scholarship award by the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), organisers of the annual Ikorodu – Oga Day Celebration.
Beneficiaries were presented with the educational support during the grand finale of the 2023 Ikorodu – Oga Day Celebration at the Ayangbure palace, Ikorodu, last Saturday.
IKODASS, under the Chairmanship of Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, on assumption of his office three years ago, had restructured the organisation’s education support scheme with Dr (Otunba) Saheed Ibikunle as its Chairman and Mr Seun Elseho as Secretary, alongside other professionals as members.
Following the interest by the AGL Delightsome Scholarship which has been endowing the IKODASS Education Support Scheme, other groups, individuals and families have also been supporting in providing funds to support tertiary education of brilliant indigent students.
Other sponsors of the IKODASS Scholarship awards are: Senator Tokunbo Abiru, FCA, sponsor of Late Justice Mubasheer Akanbi Abiru Scholarship; Col. Idris Solebo, sponsor of Late Alhaji and Alhaja Yinusa Olawale Solebo Education Endowment; Chief Abiodun Longe, sponsor of AGL Delightsome Scholarship , Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo, sponsor of Sabalemotu Erogbogbo Scholarship for Indigent Female Students, and the Longe Family, sponsor of the Late Pa Jimoh Longe Education Fund.
Mr Seun Elesho, presenting the candidates for this year’s scholarship to the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, other royal fathers and dignitaries that attended the colourful grand finale ceremony, thanked the donors.
“We are awarding 63 students scholarship this year. The beneficiaries are getting N100, 000 each. This was made possible by the Longe family, AGL Delightsome, Senator Mukhail Abiru who endowed in his father’s name, Erogbogbo family who endowed in their mother’s name (Alhaja Sabalemot Erogbogbo), Alhaji & Alhaja Solebo and Sir & Mrs David Sunmoni”, he said.
“Kabiyesi, this implies that this year, these 63 beneficiaries first collected scholarship award last year and again are collecting this year and they would also be receiving next year.
“For the AGL Delightsome, this is the third year that they have been awarding scholarship to the beneficiaries on their list.
“By implication, IKODASS has produced 20 First Class students”, Elseho said.
He also announced that IKODASS has also been providing free GCE and JAMB forms for indigent students, many of whom he said have gained admission into higher institutions across the country.
“We have also been giving free GCE and JAMB forms to students in Ikorodu, and in the last three years, about 100 students have benefitted and many among them have gained admission into higher institutions”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Chief Justice Kazeem Alogba who received the 2023 IKODASS Merit award, and the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson, have also indicated interest to support the IKODASS educational initiative.
Asiwaju Erogbogbo informed THE IMPACT that the two public officers would be sponsoring 25 additional students, staring from next year.
