Master Oyebami Oluwaseun, a Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 student of the Hebron Height Senior Secondary School, Igbogbo, has emerged the 2023 champion of the Igbogbopedia, winning a all paid expenses to South Africa, on an educational tour.
Oluwaseun is the third winner that will enjoy the educational trip which is being sponsored by the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Daini.
The annual competition, which includes Mathematics, English Language and Igbogbopedia which is about the knowledge of Igbogbo, is part of the educational programmes of the annual Igbogbo Day Celebration.
Community Senior Grammar School, Bayeku and Lagos State Girls Senior Model College, Agunfoye, emerged second and third place winners respectively.
In ‘Aroko’ competition, the Lagos State Girls Model College, Agunfoye, took the first position beating other competing schools, while the Lagos State Service Senior Model College , Igbogbo and Zumaratul Islamiyyah Senior Secondary School, Igbogbo, emerged second and third respectively.
In the Junior Secondary School Debat Category, Elepe Community Junior High School, Elepe, Andus D’Great Private School, Igbogbo, and Queen Betty Private School, Igbogbo won first, second and third positions respectively.
Adla_kef Primary School emerged winner of the Spelling Bee for the Primary School category, Salvation Army Primary School and Kith & Kin Primary School emerged second and third respectively.
In the Yoruba Debate among the Junior Secondary Schools, Community Junior Secondary School, Lajo Community Junior School and Queen Beety Private School emerged first, second and third in that order.
An interesting aspect of the educational engagement was the Ijebu Debate during which students of the Elepe Community Senior High School established their authority. Queen Beety Private School came second and Lagos State Civil Service Model College, lgbogbo, came third.
Chairman, Educational Sub – Committee, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, Kunle Shopitan, charged participants on the need to give their best and be the one that would go on the educational tour.
“We all know that we are here to compete with ourselves and bring out the best in ourselves and not to joke. Let’s us show what we can do and how we are better than others”, he said.
“I want to plead with you to give us your best and if you do that, you can be the lucky winner who will be going on the educational tour to South Africa”.
While announcing that the 2021 winner of the Igbogbopedia competition has gone on the tour and returned to the country, Shopitan also stated that last year and this year’s winner would be travelling together next year.
”I am proud to inform you that the 2021 winner of Igbogbopedia, has travelled on two weeks educational of the South Africa and has come back to tell us what he witnessed in South Africa. He was there with the number one citizen of the council, who is also our major sponsor for the educational programme”, he said.
“We are repeating same thing this year. But the last year and this year’s winners will be going together instead of going separately which will be more cost effective. Both will be travelling together next year”.
Mr Titilope Andu -Balogun, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, speaking, commended sponsors of the educational programmes and charged students to always stay competitive.
“We thank our sponsors, most especially the Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini who has been doing a wonderful work for us. Also, the Odusanya family, Mr Kasali, Permanent Secretary, and many others who have been supporting our educational programmes”, he said.
“The outcome of today’s competition should be a lesson to all schools. This is a transparent exercise and I don’t think any of the three winners last year made it to this year’s final. It shows that while they are relaxing on their previous performances, others are preparing for today.
“I want to congratulate the teachers and thank them for their impacts on our students. We cannot pay you for the selfless service that you are offering and we also thank the education committee for organizing a wonderful programme like this”, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Central Planning Committee said.
Igbogbopedia champion, Oyebami Oluwaseun, from Hebron Height College, Igbogbo, said that she was surprised by her emergence and thanked the organizer for the opportunity.
“I wasn’t even expecting it. I was expecting to emerge second, so, when they called me out, I was very happy”, she said.
“A big thank you to the organisers for granting me a platform like this to participate and win this competition. I’m so very grateful to them and grateful to God for allowing me to come here and win”.
