The Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden, under the leadership of Rotaractor (Barr.) Adeleke Aroyewun, on Monday, November 6, 2023, continued its humanitarian gesture and service delivery to the community with the donation of educational items to schools in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
While Odogunyan Senior Grammar School, Odogunyan in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), received chairs and benches, Etunrenren Primary School, Ikorodu in Local Government area, received white board markers.
A total of 10 chairs and 10 tables were donated to the secondary school and 5 white board markers.
Rotaractor Aroyewun, who is the 7th President, said that one of the core areas of the club’s service is basic education and literacy, adding that they embark on need assessment before donating to the schools.
“At Odogunyan Senior Grammar School, we donated furniture including chairs and tables, after we did our needs assessment and confirmed that many of the students sit on tyres and on the floor”, he said.
“One of the core areas of service of Rotary is Basic Education and Literacy, we tried to initiate a project along this area of service and conducted a needs assessment along this line of service and our findings such as the fact that students are sitting on tyres and their bags, while many classes are still using the archaic black board till date. This prompted this project and donations”, he added.
School administrators, staff and students/pupils in both schools, thanked the club for the gesture.
The administration of Rotaractor Aroyewun had, during its inauguration, empowered four youths with traditional sewing machine, industrial sewing machine, makeup and catering equipment, to set a high standard of what to expect under his watch.
He had earlier in July, led members of his club to donate writing materials (exercise books and pen), washing items (detergents), food items (noodles, spaghetti and other raw food items), clothes, toiletries, paste, biscuits and cash, to the Hikinos Orphanage home in Igbogbo.
