The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, unveiled the Ankara Fabric for the 35th Igbogbo Day Celebrations, and his 7th Coronation anniversary.
The ‘Ankara’ was unveiled by the Adeboruwa and his chiefs at his palace in lgbogbo.
The celebratory fabric, which is now on sales, is being sold at N3500 per six yards.
Programmes of events for this year’s celebration was also presented and approved by the Adeboruwa – in – Council, during the unveiling ceremony.
This year’s celebration is themed, ‘Ogo S’ogo (Glory to Glory), which depicts the planning committee’s intention to not only sustain the achievements of last year, but also improve on it.
The 35th lgbogbo Day, which is a 12-day long event, will commence on Saturday, November 11, 2023, and ends on Sunday, November 25, 2023.
Mr Titilope Andu – Balogun, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, speaking at the unveiling event, acknowledged the involvement of Igbogbo indigenes in diasporas, while also seeking the palace blessings in the sales of the ‘Ankara’ and programme booklets for the 2023 edition of the annual Igbogbo Day.
“Last year, Igbogbo indigenes in Diasporas in America, North America and Canada, came together and supported us for the Igbogbo Day celebration. Today, we have their President with us, who came to observe the way we are doing the celebration, because they are planning their own Igbogbo Day this year too, which is going to be held in Washington DC”, he said.
“The new President of the Igbogbo lndigenes in the Diasporas, is Omoba Omolaja Segun who is with us.
“We are here today to receive blessings from the Adeboruwa and our fathers, and unveil this ‘Ankara’ fabric, because people have been requesting for it. We are also clamouring for the cooperation of our fathers, like they did last year”, Mr Andu – Balogun said.
“Throughout the celebration last year, there was no single chief that requested for the fabric free. They all purchased the fabric, and that helped us to maximize profits from about N1.5million previously, to over N6milion.
“We hope for improved figure this year”, he said.
Alhaji Sulaimon Adekunle, Treasurer, Igbogbo Day Celebration, requesting the Adeboruwa to officially unveil the fabric, said that the royal blessing is important for good outing and profit maximization.
The Treasurer, on behalf of the committee, also presented the programmes for this year’s Igbogbo Day and Coronation Anniversary of Oba Kasali, to the gathering.
