The Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association (IKWDDA), has charged the Chairman, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), on the need to fulfil its pledge on employment and empowerment for its members.
Members of the association, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Kuku Tosin, Secretary, Mr Bima Abdullahi and PRO, Mr Opeyemi Onademuren, also expressed their support for the advocate for the recognition of sign languages in the country, as being advocated for by their national body.
IKWDDA issued the statement in commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Sign Languages and Week of the Deaf, which holds every September 23. This year’s celebration is themed, “A World Where Deaf People Everywhere Can Sign Anywhere”.
“On behalf of Ikorodu West Deaf Community, we want to seize the opportunity to appreciate the gesture of Honourable SULAIMON KAZEEM OLANREWAJU (FCA, FCTI), the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, who showed up at our last programme. He is an active man in developing the community through infrastructures, roads and renovations”, he said.
“Our request for the deaf people in commemoration of the international day of the deaf: We want him (Honourable SULAIMON KAZEEM OLANREWAJU, FCA FCTI, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA), to fulfill his promise towards Employment, Empowerment of the Deaf, and an office for the use of Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association, which will give him big testimony. He will be the first in history to do that if he should do this for us.
“We are requesting for this because deaf people in other LGAs and LCDAs, are being given attention.
They also called on other stakeholders to join the Council Chairman in ensuring that the welfare of deaf residents is taken care of.
“Others organizations and political leaders in Ikorodu West community should, please, join hands together with Honourable SULAIMON KAZEEM OLANREWAJU (FCA FCTI), the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, in order to promote and build inclusive government, and give attention to the welfare of deaf people”, they pleaded.
The Chief Press Secretary to the chairman, speaking with our reporter, said that Hon. Sulaimon felicitated the IKWDA on the International Day celebration.
He also added that the Chairman has been supporting the association, and will continue to give them support.
