A total number of 1000 residents in Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, will be benefiting from the palliative scheme that the Council boss, Hon. Wasiu Adekunle Agoro, is putting in place to support vulnerable residents.
The event hold at the council secretariat tomorrow, Thursday, August 10.
According to the Chairman, the intervention is his own support for his people who are facing hardship due to the fuel subsidy removal.
Unlike others who are distributing food items, Hon. Agoro informed that beneficiaries of the palliative scheme will be given cash.
Explaining the rationale, he said:
“We are giving our vulnerable people cash instead of food. This is an extreme rural area and not all our people are eating rice. There are also some that are not eating beans”, he said.
“In our case, we want to give them cash so that they can use it to buy whatever they want. We want them to make their own choice regarding what they want and not restricted to what we are giving them.
“The event will be holding at the council secretariat where we will be presenting the cash to the beneficiaries.
“It is a welfare package for selected vulnerable persons which includes the elderly and the physically challenged in Imota LCDA, to cushion the impacts of the prevailing economic situation caused by the fuel subsidy removal”, Hon. Agoro added.
