The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL), a non – governmental body that is managing the largest community security network in Ikorodu Division of Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, on Monday, began the screening of applicants for the 2023/2024 Scholarship and bursary awards.
About 500 students from various public universities across the country applied for the 2023/2024 edition of the N20 Million educational support endowment for indigent and brilliant students in the division.
The screening exercise, which took off today with the Bursary 2 category, at the Regal Hall, Olu – Odo in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, continues tomorrow with Bursary 1, while the applicants for the Scholarship award would take their turn on Wednesday.
At the screening today were Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, Executive Secretary, IDPIL, Hon. (Chief) Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, Chairman, Scholarship and Award committee, Col. Titi Onafowokan, Alhaji Odufeko (Obanta), Alhaji Luqman Shonibare, Alhaji Taofeek Kalejaiye, former Chairman, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee and Mr Taiwo Salami Awolaru, Administrative Secretary, IDPIL, among other chieftains of the body.
The scholarship and bursary awards formed a major part of the IDPIL intervention programmes in the educational sector.
It would recalled that the body announced last week that it would embark on the rehabilitation of a dilapidated block at the LG Primary School, Oreta in Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, as part of its contributions to educational development in lkorodu division.
According to the Chairman, IDPIL Education Committee, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, KJW, the said rehabilitation would be completed before the resumption of next academic calendar.
Also last month, the group, which manages the largest Local Joint Task Force (LJTF) with operatives in the six councils in Ikorodu Division, also lightened up a street in Imota LCDA, with solar powered streetlights.
