The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, Prof. Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, has revealed that the prestigious institution will be admitting students into 20 new programmes recently approved by the National University Commission (NUC).
He explained that the newly approved programmes provided the opportunity to offer admissions to qualified students from Igbogbo and other interested candidates with prerequisite O’level qualifications, and urged that prospective students should take advantage of the new courses which, according to him, are not on the JAMB portal.
Prof. Omobitan stated this at a special reception organized to celebrate his emergence as the DVC, LASU, at the Rotary Centre in Igbogbo.
The newly approved programmes are: B.Sc. Architecture, B.Sc. Building, B.Sc. Estate Management, B.Sc. Environmental Management, B.Sc. Industrial Design, B.Sc. Survey and Geo-Informatics, B.Sc. Quantity Surveying, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning, B.A. Fine Arts, B.LIS. Library and Information Science, B.Ed. Special Education, B.Eng. Industrial Engineering & Production, B. Radiography and Radiation Science, BMLS. Medical Laboratory Science, B.A. Linguistics, B.Eng. Civil Engineering, B.Sc. Science Laboratory Technology and B.Sc Taxation at the undergraduate level, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) and Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT). All are at the undergraduate level.
At the event, which was attended by His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Barr. Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, former Secretary to the Lagos State Government and chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Hon. (Chief) Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, Mr Waheed Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education and Builder Sesan Daini Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA among others, the Igbogbo community requested the DVC to use his good office to assist qualified students from his home town with admission into LASU.
Responding to the request by the monarch and the community, Prof. Omobitan said:
“The Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Bello has been doing so much. She has been propelling the management to achieve and make LASU the best university in West Africa, and I think that we are moving towards that.
“Of recent, LASU was rated as the best university in West Africa, in terms of Greenmetrics which is an eco – friendly environment.
“We now have about 20 new programmes that the National University Commission, has approved for us. These courses would be admitting students for the present admission calendar. Although, they are not on the JAMB portal, but now that they have been approved, we must admit students into the programmes”, he said.
“We have Pharmacy, Doctor of Physiotherapy, Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Taxation, Building, Estate Management, Surveying and Geo – Informatics, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Medical Science Laboratory and others.
“We would be admitting students into these programmes. Those who are interested or who want to change their course of study, can apply. They must have prerequisite papers or school certificates. This may make the admission process a bit easier, because so many courses are now available”, he added.
