Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas representing Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State on Tuesday emerged the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 10th National Assembly.
Abbas who was nominated by the outgone Majority Leader of the House, Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, polled 353 votes to defeat former Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase and Sani Jaji. His nomination was seconded by Rep. Nnolim Nnaji.
Wase and Jaji scored 3 votes each.
The new Speaker was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and since then, he has made his mark.
He sponsored 74 bills in the just concluded 9th House which was the highest by any member.
Abbas in the 8th Assembly – between 2015 and 2019, had set a feat as single member that sponsored the highest number of bills in the entire National Assembly
Meanwhile, Benjamen Okezie Kalu has also emerged the Deputy Speaker with overwhelming support by the entire members present at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives.
He was nominated by the representatives of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson.
