The leadership of the Igbogbo Youth Congress (IYC), has, again, asked the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo – Olu, to intervene urgently in the infrastructural problems in Igbogbo, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria.
IYC, had in April this year, written to congratulate Sanwo – Olu, and pleaded with his government to look into many road projects that the group said has been abandoned and others that are critical and deserving the government’s attention.
In a special reminder signed by Comrade Kazeem O. Ogunmuyiwa, and Comrade Olafare Comfort O., the President and General Secretary of the umbrella body of the youths in Igbogbo, respectively, the group said that the state of the road infrastructures is not in alignment with the rising mega city status of Lagos as the administration professed and working towards.
IYC stated that the construction works which have been financed by the state on Bola Tinubu Way, Igbogbo/Bayeku Road and others, have been abandoned while thousands of people residing in Offin, Oreta and other areas of lgbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, have been abandoned to their fate.
“The general poor state of infrastructures in Igbogbo and contiguous communities, is antithetical to the enviable outlook of our dear state in all ramifications of societal wellbeing. It is excruciating that our idyllic ‘land of cool beauty’, has become hellish. Our LCDA is evidently crawling socio – culturally and economically. Definitely, this is not a good testimony of your impeccable standard, your excellency”, the IYC stated.
“Work is abysmally too slow on the Bola Ahmed Tinubu road, taking too many years than evidently necessary. The Obafemi Awolowo Way is not getting the quality, accelerated attention it deserves, considering its huge importance. Baiyeku road and Offin/Oreta road have been practically neglected just as many community link roads like Olayinka street, Oliwo Amoju street have become impassable and nearly becoming death traps.
“The people suffer untoward economic hardship on a daily basis due to the state of these roads. Motorists and pedestrians lose costly man-hours and incur unnecessary vehicle repair expenditures. This situation adds a huge burden on the people who are already barely trudging through life because of the prevailing heavy loads of daily living. More concerning is that our primary and secondary schools’ children go through harrowing experiences as they go to schools on a daily basis (see enclosed pictures). We do not want our pride to live life and get education under this chaotic daily commute. This is not too good for a state like ours, your excellency. We have some emergency situations on our hands, your immediate concrete attention is requested, your excellency”, IYC leadership charged.
Also in the reminder letter to Gov. Sanwo – Olu, IYC reiterated that the construction on the Igbogbo Stadium and the upgrade of the Igbogbo Maternity/Health Centre have been abandoned for months.
The group charged the governor on the need for work to re – start on these projects in an accelerated manner, to improve the living conditions of the people and prevent mass mobilization.
“Work on the Igbogbo mini stadium has also been abandoned. The expected expansion of Igbogbo maternity and health centre, is not receiving any attention as far as current reality shows. Our communities surely deserve better from the government, considering how much political goodwill that your government enjoys despite the incursions of your traducers”, the youth leaders said.
“We urge your excellency to direct that work improves and returns on all the projects till they are all delivered in good time and to the best quality. Your excellency, our communities hold you in high esteem and trust that you will cause the necessary immediate actions to be taken. We know that you are a compassionate leader, that is why the youth demographic of Igbogbo will continue to pray for you, support you and trust that our request to you regarding the subject matter of this letter will be duly considered. We do not think resorting to protest and public remonstration is necessary, despite that the people, especially the youths, are becoming distrustful of and very angry with governments. Please, take immediate, giant actions, your excellency.
“Meanwhile, we, once again, express our unequivocal appreciation to your excellency for the great accomplishment of your administration so far. Clearly, your well-marshalled T. H. E. M. E. S. agenda will be advanced in your second term and we wish you success always.
“Thank you, sir”.
