The Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC) has congratulated the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was sworn – in some hours back, and the second term Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo – Olu.
The umbrella body of Igbogbo youths, described the inauguration of both the new president and the second term governor, as a dawn of a new era, charging the new administrations in the country and Lagos State, to listen and ensure the fulfilment of various agitations and expectations of Nigerians.
In a statement sent to THE IMPACT today and signed by the IYC President, Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, the youth group also reminded Lagosians and Nigerians at large, of roles expected of them as citizenry for the leadership to succeed.
The IYC’s statement titled, ‘May 29th, 2023: The Dawn Of A New Era’, is reproduced below:
Let the coalition be the first to welcome you into a new dispensation, a major transition in the fabric of our nation, and one that has a personal alignment with us as Lagosians.
Since Independence, Nigeria has encountered various forms of government with their unique leadership standard, we have a record of 63 years of different leadership sequence and having travelled these leadership standards, there is no better time that Nigerians have grown more deserving of good governance and effective leadership.
There has been limitless clamor for reforms, socio economic development among others in all major sectors, albeit the level of our agitation might differ from region to region, state to state, local government to local government and village to village as the case maybe, but there is definitely no area that is not clamoring for these reforms and for this reason, a lot is expected from this administration.
Today, we gather here to witness a historic moment in our nation’s journey, a moment that signifies the birth of a new dawn in Nigeria. We stand at the precipice of a transformative era, where the dreams of our founding fathers and aspirations of millions of Nigeria are set to be a tangible reality. As we bid farewell to one chapter and open another, we acknowledge the immense significance of this transition. We gather to honor the old and embrace the new, recognizing that change itself is a cardinal part of growth and development.
We, as a coalition, stand at the threshold of history, with our legendary hopes and clear optimism. We all played our first role of electing leaders beyond cronyism, ethnic jingoism and religious bias, that’s a bright side to our history, but we should also remember that the birth of a new dawn does not rest solely on the shoulders of our elected leaders, it rests upon each and every one of us, it requires our active participation, our collective effort and our unwavering belief in the power of unity and progress. We must rise above our differences and come together as one, recognizing that the strength of our nation lies in our diversity. We are capable of achieving this transformation to the extent we desire and deserve, we have the talent, resilience and capacity to overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.
We congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, as they take over the mantle of leadership as President and Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria respectively, and our dear Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, we establish our belief and commitment in their capacity to usher in the transformation our country desires.
May we never know better yesterday as a Nation.
