-Parents commend school impacts
In a bid to encourage their top students, raise them as reference and exemplar for other students to emulate, the management of the Kith & Kin International College, organized a special treat to celebrate the excellent performance of eight of their students in the 2023 JAMB examination.
The top JAMB students of Kith & Kin International School and their parents, were hosted at the Radisson Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
The grand reception was tagged, ‘Celebrating Excellent Performance ln JAMB 2023’.
The brilliant eight students of the school, which is situated at Owode – Ibeshe, in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, who made the school proud are: Ajani Covenant, Folorunsho Esther, Idris Umar and Akinsiku Bisola. They scored 321, 317, 316 and 315, respectively, to lead as JAMB toppers.
Others are: Adegbehingbe Deborah (308 points), Anyinweh Jeffrey (302 points), Olaifa Moshood (302 points) and Ikemefuna Faith (301).
It was a great outing for the students and their parents who were treated to good food (both local and international), drinks and dance in a top restaurant in the state.
Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Chief Learning Officer (CLO), Kith & Kin Educational Schools, said that the school is celebrating the excellent performance of their students for distinguishing themselves in the JAMB examination.
“I welcome the parents and the PTA Chairman to this occasion. Out of a population of about 43 students in our SSS class, these eight among them have distinguished themselves in their JAMB examinations and that calls for celebration”, Asipa Kaoli said.
“When we compared the results, the best that we have heard of was 365 and the best around Lagos State is 337. In Kith and Kin Educational Schools, we have eight of our students who scored 300 and above marks.
“We have students that scored 321, 317, 316, 315 and so on. With this, we have a benchmark to compare our performance and the performances of our students and that is what we are celebrating today”, the CLO explained.
He charged them to continue to excel and not relent on their efforts.
“When you perform very well, your parents will clap for you and your community will acclaim you. Please, don’t relent and don’t think that you have arrived. You are just starting. You should have education with character and you may be the one that God will use to open door for your family”.
The former Commissioner for Agriculture, also charged them to always listen to their parents and teachers, and warned them from falling for peer pressure.
Principal of the school, Mr Oregbesan Julius Gbenga, who described the day as a great one in the annals of Kith & Kin International College, also said that the school sets a high standard for their students.
“Today is a great day, and I thank God Almighty for the privilege. I also appreciate the CLO and entire management. This is first of its kind in the history of Kith & Kin International College. Last year, just two of our students were able to score above 300 in the JAMB examination and we thought that was great”, he said.
“This year, the target I set for our students was 350 and l promised to give them prizes. I also assured them that I will ask the CLO to support me if ten of them scored 350, because I cannot handle their prizes personally.
“Following that, I saw the willingness and commitment in them to attain the set target. In our mock examinations, they scored 200 and above and I told them that they are not there at all.
While stating that the top JAMB students deserved the honour, the school principal also charged them not to relent in their academic pursuits as he has set another high standard for them in the WAEC and NECO examinations.
“Seeing them scoring above 300 amazed me. I am happy about that. We are here today to celebrate them. But, this is just the beginning of the race. I have also told them that I want nine A1s from them in their WAEC”, Mr Oregbesan said.
“That is my expectation from you and others that are not here. With that, you will make your set very special. When you returned to school, you should rub your celebration on those that are not here positively and influence them to do better in the examinations”, he charged.
Ajani Covenant, the highest JAMB scorer in the school, while speaking on behalf of others at the treat, thanked God for the opportunity given to them, and also appreciated the school for impacting and celebrating their academic performances.
“We are grateful to God Almighty for giving us the opportunity to have good scores, and we also want to appreciate the CLO and the management for the celebration”, she said.
“We know that we have made the school proud, and we will continue to make you proud.
“I want to thank my fellow classmates for putting in so much effort, and I pray that our efforts towards the WAEC and NECO will not be in vain. Our set will be the best set in the history of the school”, she assured school management and parents at the occasion.
Pastor (Engr.) Folorunsho David, who spoke on behalf of the parents of the top students, thanked the school for celebrating their children and encouraging them further.
“On behalf of the parents, I really appreciate the school for all that you have done for these students, and for the motivational steps that you have taken to impact them. I think this one (celebration) will go a long way in making them perform more than you are expecting from them in their WAEC”, he said thankfully.
“I know that the students here will make you more proud than you imagine. Thank you and God bless”.
The parents’ representative, whose first daughter was a former Head Girl in Kith & Kin International College and now studying Medicine & Surgery, called for support for the school.
“I so much appreciate the coordination and the school setting. I thank God for Kith & Kin, and for opening my eyes to the school and how a school should be and excel. Be expecting all my children in your school. There is no doubt about that”, he said.
“The teachers are performing excellently well, let us support them. The CLO and ED (Executive Director) are doing everything to project the school as an institution with international standards. I pray that God will help you take the school higher. Let us support them.
“We are going somewhere. I told my son that KKES will soon have a University and I will be proud as a parent to send my child to learn there. I know that you will replicate the standard that you set in your secondary school, when you have higher institution.
“I don’t know if you mind, Sir, but this is my encouragement for you to go further and see what you can do in that respect”, he said.
The Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, Mr Oluwole Osewa, congratulating the school and the students, expressed happiness that the celebration of the top students is happening during his tenure.
He described the students’ feat as a big landmark deserving of celebrations.
“Today is one of my happiest days, because this is the first time that we are doing this, not because we don’t want to but sometimes, we don’t realise the height that we have attained because we have set so much standard for ourselves”, he said.
“When we compare results in Ikorodu, we are having the best and schools that don’t even have as much as we have are already celebrating. For us, this is a big landmark and for me in particular, and the fact that this is happening in my time as the PTA Chairman.
“I am so happy for your performances, because you have all been given the same resources by your teachers, but you have added focus, seriousness and passion to yours. That is why you have the results and the reason we are all here today celebrating with you”.
The PTA Chairman also charged the top JAMB scorers not to relent in being the best.
“Kudos to you for having earned the top scores in your JAMB, which is the only examination respected by everyone in Nigeria. We respect and we are happy for you”.
“Let the same passion with which you have put into your examinations drive you for the rest of your life. I have no doubt in my mind that you are going to do well in your WAEC. What you are experiencing today is a pointer that you are going to be great in future”, he said.
Others at the celebration were: (Chief) Mrs Olukemi Olanrewaju Olusanya, the Yeye Asipa of lkorodu, the Executive Director and Head of the Quality Control Unit (EDQC), and a few selected teachers.
