It was a very worrisome and shameful sight when the photographs of photographs of the Local Government Primary School, Oreta in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, were posted on a social media platform, on Tuesday.
The photographs were posted by no other person than the former Minister for Works and a chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Sen. (Otunba) Dr. Adeseye Ogunlewe, on THE IMPACT platform.
LG Primary School, Oreta was established in 1948.
The disheartening pictures show the dilapidated structures and the unconducive academic environment where pupils in Oreta and its environs are receiving lessons on daily basis, despite the huge sum of money that has been allotted for infrastructural upgrades of schools by the State and Council authorities in their budgets.
Most of the structures in the school have served their usefulness and are in dire need of total overhauling. The ceilings are in such a precarious state that it could collapse anytime, while the floor in all the classrooms are nothing but a disgrace.
In actual fact, poultry and other places where animals are being reared, are far better than the school.
We use this medium to thank Sen. Ogunlewe, who doubles as the Chairman, Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG) and that of the Ikorodu Town Hall Management Board (ITHMB), for showing serious interest in the educational development of lkorodu.
We also call on the Lagos State Government, especially its agencies; Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB), Ministry of Education, Education District II and Special Committee for Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), as well as the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and the Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), to urgently intervene in the reconstruction of the school.
