Wale Jagun
The pioneer Head of Department of Physics, Lagos State University of Education, Dr Okedeyi Sakiru Abiodun, FNIP, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics.
Okedeyi, who is a member, Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), was inducted on Tuesday, at the 44th Annual Conference of the institute, going on at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu (LASUSTECH). The conference, which commenced on Monday, May 8, will end on Friday, May 12, 2023.
Profile of Dr Okedeyi Abiodun
Dr. Okedeyi Sakiru Abiodun was born on December 28, 1970, in Imota town in Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State. He attended L.G. Primary School, Imota, from 1977 to 1983. He proceeded to Ansar-ur-deen Grammar School, Imota, in 1983 and sat for his West African School Certificate Examination in 1988. He gained admission to Lagos State University, Ojo, in 1993, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science/Education (B.Sc. Ed) degree in Physics in 1997. He did his National Youth Service Corps, with the Shell Petroleum Development Company, Port- Harcourt, as a Community Development Officer between 1998 and 1999.
He enrolled for a Master degree in the Faculty of Science University of Lagos, Akoka, and earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Physics in the year 2003. In pursuit of academic development and professionalism, he enrolled as a Ph.D. student in the 2006 at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, to study Environmental Management and Toxicology with Specialization in Radiation Physics. He graduated from the institution in 2012.
Okedeyi was employed as Administrative Officer II, by Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (now Lagos State University of Education), Oto/Ijanikin, in September 1999, and later, as Assistant Lecturer in School of Science, Department of Physics of the same institution from December 1999 till date. He had served in different capacities as a course lecturer, member of committees and boards.
He has successfully held the following administrative positions: Member, Governing Council Caleb University Imota, 2021 – date; Dean School of Preliminary Studies; Deputy Director, Centre for Extra Mural Studies and Community Education and Head, Department of Physics. He rose through the rank to become a Chief Lecturer in 2016.
Upon transmutation of the College to a University of Education by Lagos State Government in March 2022, Dr Okedeyi was appointed Senior Lecturer and pioneer Head of Department of Physics from September 2022 to date.
In order to give back to the community that nurtured him, Dr. Okedeyi gave his energy fully to serve his community in the following capacities as a Member: Ikorodu Town Hall Management Board, Fact-Finding Visitation to Secondary Schools in Ikorodu Division, Education Stakeholders Summit in Ikorodu Division, Career Guidance Talk.
