The management of the Ikorodu Town Hall Library, also known as Alogba Library, has called for volunteer assistants for the library.
The library was named after the late Baba Adinni of Ikorodu Central Mosque, Alhaji Chief Musediq Alogba, for his contribution towards the completion of the Ikorodu Ultra – Modern Town Hall, and education generally in Ikorodu.
At present, the educational facility is the only library that is functional and operating in the entire Ikorodu Division, as most public libraries in the division, that are owned by either the Community, Local Council Authorities or State Government, are either abandoned or under rehabilitation or upgrading.
Interested members of the public are enjoined top contact: 08028985733, 08023210699, 08027006106.
Alogba Library, which has been in existence since the early 1990s, has provided employment opportunities for students in secondary and higher institutions, scholars and working class people over the years.
Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, Chairman, Alogba Library Committee under the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group and the Ikorodu Ultra – Modern Town Hall Management Board, who spoke with THE IMPACT after his committee’s meeting last Saturday, said that the library is a community effort towards promoting reading culture and educational development generally.
The former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, said that the call for volunteer Library Assistants is in tandem with international standards for community engagement.
“Since the library is not a profit making venture, we have decided to call for volunteers from members of the public. It is in line with global standards, especially for community and humanitarian engagements. It is our responsibility to bring back such good initiative in our community and encourage our young ones to imbibe the spirit of volunteerism”, Prince Ogunleye said.
“While we are in school, we volunteered for Road Safety and we enjoyed the engagement. Volunteers are usually giving recommendation letters at the end of the service and you should know the worth of such letters from the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG) which consists of seasoned academics, eminent personalities that had served and still serving the nation and state, as well as captains industries among others”.
