A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Primate Charles Odugbesi, JP., popularly called ‘Blessed Charlie’, has appealed to people suggesting Mr Tayo Ayinde, the Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo – Olu, for same position to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to desist from what he called unnecessary campaign.
Odugbesi, who was the former State Scribe of the party, said that Ayinde should be allowed to continue his job in the Lagos State government.
The party chieftain made the appeal in statement sent to THE IMPACT last night, titled: ‘Calling for the Unnecessary’.
“I want to appeal to all those who are suggesting the name of the Lagos Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde, for the position of the Federal Chief of Staff, to please take caution and read between the lines. Tayo Ayinde, no doubt, worked assiduously for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, and worked even harder for his principal”, he said.
“And the job he is doing presently is actually taking the heat off the office of the Governor, so, I think he should continue in order to offer this service to Lagos State more than ever. This is not to say that somebody else cannot match his value or even more, but then, that person will take time to know what goes on in that office.
“The Governor and his Deputy are coming back and are ready to hit the ground running from the first second, so, there is a need for the person holding the position of Chief of staff to go along so that things will not be slowed down”, Primate Odugbesi emphasised.
He charged the promoters of Ayinde for Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, to consider the overall interest of Lagos, adding that those who worked tirelessly for the emergence of the President – elect should be considered for the exalted position, while Ayinde be allowed to continue in Lagos where he also worked tirelessly for the emergence of the Governor.
“So, if some people are rooting for someone else for that position, thereby, suggesting the name of Tayo Ayinde for the position of Chief of Staff to Asiwaju, so as to pave way for their candidate or candidates, they should, please, think of the overall interest of Lagosians”.
“It is where you sow you should reap from. Reaping where you did not sow is tantamount to stealing. How many campaign locations did Tayo follow Asiwaju to? But he led the campaign of Sanwo-Olu here in Lagos, taking risks and giving dynamic leadership. Now, when the time comes to reap the fruits of his labour here where he worked, some people are suggesting he should go and reap it in a farm he did not cultivate.
“Whosoever pray to work and reap the fruits of his labour, should, please, stop this campaign. It would not amount to ordinary sin if the Governor doesn’t give Tayo Ayinde a second time, it will be a sacrilege. May God reward us according to the works of our hands.
“Let Tayo Ayinde continue the good work he is doing. May God gives our able Governor and his Deputy, the wisdom, good health and sound mind with which to continue the good work of nation building they have embarked upon”, he appealed.
