Churches in Ikorodu on Sunday, embarked on processions to celebrate Palm Sunday, which usually occurs a week before Easter celebrations. Members of the congregation were seen waving palm fronds and singing along the streets.
The celebration was in commemoration of Jesus Christ entering into Jerusalem on a donkey, but, unfortunately, many of the Churches were unable to make use of donkeys due to high cost of rent and scarcity.
At The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Aga, Ikorodu, children who led the procession were seen in blue and green attires covering their heads. They march along the Aga/Ireshe Road, Ikorodu Club Road and other streets in Aga.
Rt. Revd. Ezekhial Adeleke Adetoro, the Bishop, The African Church, Lagos Missionary Diocese, who delivered the Palm Sunday sermon at the Cathedral Church in Ikorodu, before the procession charged members to always be in tune with the significance of the day.
He said that the palm fronds which is a major feature of the celebration signify peace, while the young donkey denote humility and purity of Christ.
Also speaking with our reporter, the Bethel Cathedral Warden, Engr. Sunday Oshin, charged members of the congregation to always observed the lessons from Jesus selfless sacrifice on the cross of Calvary to save mankind from sin
He also asked Christians to exemplify the values of sacrifice, love and honesty that Jesus truly represents.
Our reporter that covered Igbogbo in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, also witnessed members of Celestial and Cherubim and Cherubim Churches, observed the procession along the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, Igbogbo.
