The pioneer Registrar of the prestigious Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Mr Shakirudeen Adetona Bello, today, appreciated God in his life with thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 62, Area 1, Ijede.
He clocked 60 years of age on Wednesday, March 29. Incidentally, the day also witnessed the official admission of the first set of students into the new University.
Bello, who also had the rare privilege of being the last Registrar of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) before its transmutation into LASUSTECH, had successfully completed his five-year tenure on February 8.
The celebrant was joined by family members, friends and colleagues in thanksgiving to God for his grace, rare privilege and favour.
The former registrar, spoke with THE IMPACT in Ijede when our reporter approached him for a brief chat on the milestone.
“I was appointed in 2018 as the substantive Registrar of the then LASPOTECH for a single term of five years which was completed on the 8th of February, 2023, but within the duration of the tenure, I was involved in the processes that led to the ushering of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH)”, he said.
“The law establishing LASUSTECH emphatically states that a sitting Registrar before the enactment of this law shall continue to act in that capacity. As a result of the law, the Governing Council conferred on me the substantive status of the Registrar of LASUSTECH, thereby, making me the pioneer Registrar”, he said with every sense of fulfilment and appreciation to God.
“It was a very rare honour that God bestowed on me and when he will further honour me, the maiden matriculation ceremony of the first set of students in LASUSTECH was held on the same day that I was celebrating my 60th birthday.
While stating that today’s thanksgiving service was his way of appreciating God, Mr Bello also listed some of the major achievements of the Registry unit of the LASPOTECH/LASUSTECH.
“Today’s thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 62, Area 1, is my way of appreciating God. This is my way of thanksgiving to God for giving me the opportunity to be the last Registrar of the Lagos State Polytechnic and the pioneer Registrar of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). It’s a milestone achievement and I want to glorify God for that”, he said.
“In the effort to compliment what l met on ground and to strengthen the institution, there were quite a number of things done in the registry that were novel initiatives that one could point at. Under my watch we introduced the annual training for the staff to stimulate higher productivity.
“We introduced the annual registry retreat, where we normally invite past Registrars to share their experience and serve as facilitators in the training to upcoming administrators.
“We had engaged in training and development of staff and many other things”, Mr Bello added.
