The Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has confirmed the sighting of the moon marking the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan 2023.
Sultan, in a post shared by the National Moonsighting Committee on twitter, confirmed the commencement of the fasting on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
Also, the Grand Chief Imam, Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, His Eminence, Fadeelat Sheikh Al-Imam, Aliu Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Olowo-Oribi, also confirmed the beginning of the Muslim fasting in a statement on his Facebook page.
“Today, 29th day of Sha’aban 144AH, which is equivalent to 22nd March, 2023, marks the end of the month of Sha’aban 144AH as the reports of moon sighting of the new moon, were received from Muslim leaders and organizations across the length and breadth of our dear country…”, the Sultan of Sokoto said.
“Consequently, tomorrow Thursday the 23rd day of March 2023, becomes the first day of Ramadan 1444 after Hijra. We, therefore, call on all Muslims to commence fasting accordingly.”
Confirming the commencement of the Ramadan to Muslim faithful in Ikorodu, Grand Chief Imam Olowooribi, said:
“This is to officially congratulate the Muslim community of Ikorodu Division on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan 1444 A.H.
“May the holy month brings peace and blessings to you and your household.
“The holy month of Ramadan is a blessed month of answered prayers. I urged all devoted Muslims to remember the Nation in their prayers.
“Once again, I congratulate every devoted Muslim for the rare opportunity to witness this month; may we witness more of it, lnsha Allah. Welcome, Ramadan!”
