-urges residents on the need to vote on Saturday
Disturbed by the negative politicking and focus on ethnicity rather than issue – based campaign, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, has appealed to Lagos residents, especially the people of Ikorodu to promote issues that unite us rather than encouraging divisiveness.
Oba Kasali charged that residents should focus on issue – based campaign and engagements, and endeavor to set agendas for those seeking their mandate for the Governorship and State Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
The revered royal father made the appeal during a chat with THE IMPACT on Friday.
“In the coming elections, people should focus on issues and campaigns that promote peace, harmony and good relationships, because after the elections, we are still going to co – exist together”, Oba Kasali said.
“This is a very important period in the existence of our state and nation at large, and we must be careful in what we say or write, especially on social media.
“Instead of the promotion of hatred and negative politicking, let us focus on issues raised by candidates on how they are promising to change our state, engage them and vote on that basis. More importantly, we must focus on the candidate’s track records; what we have been able to see them do and what they plan to do”, Oba Kasali said.
He charged residents of Igbogbo and Ikorodu Division in general, especially those registered for the election, to ensure that they troop out to vote come March 18 to elect a governor and Assembly members.
“The only way to show or prove anything politically is when we support our advocacy with action and in this case, votes. Don’t just keep your PVCs at home, ensure that you come out with your families, friends and others around you to vote. That is the only way to protect your heritage and put those that you trusted in charge of your values”, the royal father said.
“I plead and charge our people to ensure that we have maximum votes for the governorship election.
“This is another opportunity, and possibly the last, to prove our electoral and political relevance in Ikorodu, with our votes. We have done it in the Presidential and National Assembly elections that we have the required numbers and that we are politically enlightened and in dire need of federal and state governments’ presence. It is time for us to consolidate on that by ensuring that we improve on our voting.
“There are about 400, 000 registered voters, but only about 100, 000 voted in the last election. I appeal to you all to come out for the governorship election to further show Ikorodu’s relevance and make us sustain the number one spot in the state”, Oba Kasali further charged.
“It is also imperative that you go to the polling booth on Saturday peacefully, vote peacefully and conduct yourself in such a way that will promote peace and ensure a smooth voting process”, Kabiyesi pleaded.
