The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, has charged leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu, that they must do everything to win the forthcoming Governorship and Assembly elections in Lagos if they are not to be abused.
Hon. Adeshina, who said that the state was handed over to the present crop of politicians, and cannot allow a section of the country to take it away from them, charged that the March 11 election is a must win for the party to regain its lost glory, as suffered in the last Presidential election where Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi defeated the APC Presidential candidate and former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He gave the charge at the March 2023 edition of ‘Apo – Anu’ food distribution which was held on Saturday at the Rep. Babajimi Benson’s Constituency office in Ikorodu.
“I want to thank the people of Ikorodu for their votes in the past election, but that is not enough and we have to do much more”, he charged.
“We thank our MHR (Rep. Benson) for all the good jobs he has been doing in Ikorodu. We thank our Senator and also our Governor and our father Jagaban (Tinubu), who gave us the opportunity to do the work that we are doing.
“What is on ground concerns everyone because we don’t want the Igbos to take Lagos away from us, because this is not the way Lagos was handed over to the politicians. We must not allow them to abuse all of us which is why we have to do this very well”, Hon. Adeshina said.
“Lagos was given to us as a winning team and by the grace of God, we will also win the one (election) that is coming up next Saturday. We are going to win and that is why I want to beg you to monitor our votes to avoid the challenges of last Saturday’s election. We have to monitor the situation together”.
The Council boss, who alleged gross electoral malpractices by LP in the Eastern parts of the country, also said that chieftains and members of the APC were harassed, charged that such must not be allowed to repeat itself.
“I heard a news today that in Imo state, the returning officer said that there was no election in some certain places and they went ahead to write results for the Labour Party. That was what they did all over the country. They did the same thing in Oshodi and Festac”, Hon. Adeshina alleged.
“The chairman of Isolo, told me that they pointed guns at him and closed the door on him before they started voting. This time around, we won’t allow them and that is why we have to monitor it together. The vote of Ikorodu has to be much for us to neutralize that of Ojo”, he said.
Hon. Adesina also pleaded with residents to troop out come Saturday, March 11, to vote for the re – election of Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu and APC Assembly candidates.
