Rep. Babajimi Benson, re – elected representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency

It is certain that the newly elected representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson is not fully satisfied with the number of voters recorded in the last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections. He has declared that there is still so much work to be done before the March 11 Governorship and State Assembly elections.

There are about 400, 000 registered voters in Ikorodu Federal Constituency which is also a Local Government, out of which about 85, 000 voters only came out to vote last Saturday.

The newly elected member of the House of Representatives that will represent the Ikorodu Federal Constituency between 2023 and 2027, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has said that there are still so much work to do before the Governorship and State Assembly elections of March 11.

Benson expressed his concern in an interview with journalists and bloggers after he was returned by the INEC, at the electoral body Secretariat at his Ikorodu office on Sunday.

“The reward for hard work is more work. We still have an election in two weeks time. We have 382, 000 registered voters and only about 60, 000 plus turned out. So, it is not yet uhuru”, Rep. Benson said.

“We still have to do a lot of work to ensure that the 60, 000 figure rises up to at least a 100, 000. I know we can do it. Once the governorship election is concluded, it means we have an unbroken chain because I know Asiwaju Bola Ahmed will also come out triumphant. The Senator (Tokunbo Abiru) will win; I have won and I expect the governor and the Assembly candidates to win too, so that we can have that unbroken chain and that broom that symbolizes our party. Once that one is set, Ikorodu will see the dawn of a new era. We have been saying that Ikorodu will become a headquarter and we are all committed to ensuring that it comes to fruition”.

“The percentage turnout is less than sixty percent. We are going to roll up our sleeves and ensure that 60, 000 voters is almost double in two weeks time”, he added.

“We are coming back to serious work. We have learnt from this and we must ensure that we paint Ikorodu APC”, he charged.

Expressing his happiness on being returned for the third term, Rep. Benson, said:

“I feel great and I am very grateful to God. I thank my family, my darling wife. I thank the leadership of the party. I thank Asiwaju Bola Ahmed for giving me this opportunity and for introducing me to politics and I thank the people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency for giving me this overwhelming mandate again, and the traditional institution. They all stood by me”.

“I thank you guys; the journalist and the average person on the street. The victory is overwhelming; the love, I have never seen anything like this. So, I am extremely happy and very grateful for the endorsement.

“If you look all around Lagos, Ikorodu has done excitingly well and I give thanks to everyone for acknowledging our modest efforts and coming out to vote for us. I thank everyone deeply and from the depth of my heart”, he said.
