A chieftain of the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC) and All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, has said that the turnout for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, has given hope for a better tomorrow.
The elder statesman also said that the northern part of the country always fulfills agreements and that he’s sure that they are going to vote for the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Basorun, who voted at polling booth 10, along Meri Road, Igbogbo, where APC won the Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections, spoke with some journalists in his home in Igbogbo, and expressed his confidence that APC will win the Presidential election.
“We have been receiving calls from various polling units that the turnout is large and everything is working. The turnout is impressive and people are voting. I have gotten report from three places where the machine is not working, and I have spoken to the electoral officer, Mrs. Oyeleso who received the message and acted on it”, Asiwaju Basorun said.
“Apart from that, you can see that it is going well, I have voted and nobody is anxious about money.
“In my polling unit, I saw many young people who were anxious to vote and they said the thing will close by 2:30, we hope everyone will have voted by that time, but the rate at which the voting is going is fast and not like in the past. It took me one and half minutes. My name was found and somebody took my photograph and he was satisfied. The next person gave me the ballot paper and I voted”, the elder statesman said while explaining the electoral process.
“Compared to 2019, this is a better turn out. It shows that people are recognizing that their participation is important. Despite the fact that there’s blockage of money. They don’t need to block any money because it is needed for logistics.
“Somebody has to take his Jeep from Agunfoye to carry people to Ewu Elepe this morning. If the party is allowed, we would have to move people whose polling units are far.
“At Agunfoye, people waited when the machine was faulty because they wanted to vote, that means one thing. There’s hope that there will be better tomorrow”, Asiwaju Basorun said.
The GAC chieftain, who is a retired official of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and worked in the north while in service, expressed his confidence that northerners will vote for Tinubu.
“The Hausa people do keep to agreement. Kwankwaso will fall to the ground in Kano, then you come to Maiduguri and Plateau, where some referred to as battlegrounds. With what Lalong has done over there. When you come to Maiduguri, not only what Shettima has done there, but the incumbent governor there is doing very well and some people say will not win. We will win Bauchi, as far as I am concerned, because it is Muhammadu Buhari that they are worshipping there. I might be proved wrong at the end of the day, but that is my belief”, Asiwaju Basorun said confidently.
“By this time tomorrow (today), we would have gotten our own report and know where we are because in the north, they are going to vote for us all round. Yobe will vote for us, Bornu will, Gombe will and now, they are talking of Bauchi and even in Adamawa and we will see what will happen in Adamawa, but the problem is that they are quarrelling there, if not, they can beat Atiku there”, Asiwaju Basorun said.
