The Scholarship Scheme Committee of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), has presented free JAMB forms to 43 indigent students in Ikorodu.
The beneficiaries were also registered for the examinations by the socio – cultural and development association.
A total of 133 applicants were received at the deadline for the call for the applications, while 66 applicants attended the screening by the committee, out of which 43 qualified candidates were picked.
The free JAMB forms were sponsored by the Late Jimoh Owode Longe Education Funds, in partnership with IKODASS.
According to the IKODASS General Secretary, Mr Seun Elesho who also doubles as Secretary to the Scholarship board, the screening was deliberately delayed to determine candidates that can not afford the form.
“It is a deliberate decision on our part and the only simple way to get those that are truly in need. The delay was even first step of the screening”, he told THE IMPACT.
“Definitely, only the 66 that attended the screening that are truly in need, others have definitely been able to source for funds or get the forms elsewhere, while the 66 candidates probably don’t have any other source and these are our actual targets.
“Those that were not given out of the 66 are either without WAEC or GCE results, and giving such would amount to wastage of the forms. It is even part of the requirements for the application that you must have O’level results before applying. So, our consideration is for those with results”, he added.
“Others that were screened out don’t have any reason to go to higher institutions and how they got their O’level results are questionable.
“In all, 43 candidates out of the 66 that attended the screening were certified fit for the free forms and they were not only presented with the JAMB forms, but were also registered for the examinations.”, Elseho said.
The IKODASS General Secretary also informed THE IMPACT that about 10 candidates that benefited from the IKODASS/Longe Free JAMB forms last year have secured admissions into various higher institutions.
