Lagos State Government has been enjoined to promote development in riverine areas with sporting activities. This was the charge given by the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) AbdulHakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom.
The royal father said that the government should look inwardly in tapping into the water resources to develop games for riverine people.
Oba Oyebo gave the charge while speaking with THE IMPACT at the maiden edition of the inter – house sports competition of Egbin Kingdom Nursery & Primary School, Egbin, Ijede Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on Friday.
The sporting event, which was graced by the Chairman, Ijede LCDA, top education officials and guests, took place at the Powerfields Elementary School’s Football field, Egbin Thermal Station premises.
“I want to advise the government of Lagos State to do more in the rural areas in terms of sport activities. They should tap into the natural resources that we have been blessd with in our various communities, especially in the riverine areas”, Obateru of Egbin Kingdom said.
“We have so many sporting activities that can be organized in the rural areas. In America, they use to organize beach soccer and different types of sports around the riverine areas. Lagos State should do more in terms of discovery of talents and not only the ones in the city but also in the rural areas.
The royal father also charged parents to allow their children take part in sports which, according to him, would help in developing them mentally and physically.
“My advice to the parents is to encourage their children in the area of sports, because academic and sporting activities can go together. They should do more to support their children”, he said.
