-Commends legislative debate conveners
Mr Awesu Abdulazeez Adekunle, a contender for the Ikorodu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that he will continue his campaign where he stopped when the Supreme Court of Nigeria deliver its judgment on his appeal on Friday.
The matter, which is between Awesu and Mr AbdulKarerm Shittu who the Appeal Court and Federal High Court have affirmed as the PDP flagbearer for the lkorodu Federal Constituency seat, came up for hearing at the apex on January 18, 2023, and was adjourned till Friday, January 27.
It is believed that the Justices of the Supreme Court will deliver their ruling on the matter on Friday (tomorrow).
Awesu, who attended the 2nd Ikorodu Division Legislative Debate as a member of the audience, commended the conveners of the debate, while speaking with THE IMPACT after the programme.
“Well, as we all know that the candidacy of our party for the House of Representatives in Ikorodu is still under litigation at the Supreme Court where we are hoping to get positive judgment on Friday, and hoping to get back on the ballot paper to continue from where I stopped”, Awesu said confidently.
“Hopefully by Friday if we get my mandate back, we are going to make the campaign fully interesting and issue – based. God willing, if I get my mandate back, we are going to continue from where we stopped, which basically is sensitistation of the people on why they need to get their PVCs, giving them reasons why they need to come out and vote, because you will not just sit in a corner and expect things to happen. Things will not happen unless you come out to make things happen.
Speaking on the debate, Awesu described it as a step in the right direction.
“Looking at the debate we had today, trust me, I think this is the right thing in the right direction. It actually gave us the opportunity to see other candidates from other parties, aside just seeing them on posters”, he said.
“Hearing them talk makes us know what they have for us in terms of their programmes and agenda. I will say a very big thank you to the organizers of this programme, and we are looking forward to getting more turnout and responses in the subsequent editions in the coming years”, he added.
He further charged residents to get their PVC.
“I will just use this opportunity to encourage people that they should go out and get their PVCs, and also encourage their friends and families to get theirs too, so that, the decision we are talking about; that needs to be made, we will all contribute to it and make it together. That is how to bring about the output that we are looking for”, Awesu appealed.
