As the sailor in charge of the Lagos East Senatorial District, the Lekan Aroyewun Project (LeAP), a political think – tank of the former aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency II, Mr Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has said that Sen. Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru is doing good with the way he has been navigating the ship of the district.
The political group said that the Senator, popularly refers to as #DoingGood politician, is bringing happiness to the generality of people through innovative and impacting legislation, programmes and interventions.
LeAP management in a statement titled, ‘He Sails, We Sail: Straight thinking about Senator Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’, signed today by its Director – General (DG), Mr Nurudeen Oshinlaja, said that the Senator deserves to be re – elected to continue sailing the Lagos East District to goodness.
“Except we do not tell ourselves the truth, all challenges that we face as a society, as a nation, are because we relegate goodness to the background. Our society has very few people who do good. It is even more concerning that fewer people think of doing good things in our society. Many do not care, and some think they do not have enough capacity to do good. But doing good breeds happiness, life satisfaction, and a deep pleasant feeling that money cannot buy”, the statement said.
“It is not hyperbole to say that ‘good’, ‘goodness’ and ‘doing good’ need to grow geometrically if not astronomically in our society, our nation to increase the chance of revitalizing our society, our nation in all ramifications.
“The above premise naturally made me become excited about Distinguished Senator Adetokunbo Abiru’s moves which are underpinned by the ‘DoingGood’ paradigms. This ‘DoingGood’ is on a much higher level than the morality construct of ‘good-boy-nice-girl’ which is often not backed by real convictions but by conformity needs”, LeAP DG added.
While stating the #DoingGood agenda of the former bank Chief Executive Officer, is bringing about transformation in the society, LeAP, said that if further encouraged, the good work of the Senator, which are in conformity with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), can be spread round the country.
“As can be discerned from Senator Abiru’s achievements so far (see tokunboabiru.org), far-reaching transformational outcomes will increase as the ‘#DoingGood’ gets stronger, more robust and more enabled. Although, it requires a huge amount of effort and resources, I think ‘#DoingGood’ can permeate our society, our nation, if the basic ingredients, love and altruism are brought in”, the DG said.
“It is not an embellishment to say that Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’ and JB’s iCare are already giving our society a positive outlook. Both ideas can galvanize total quality development. The fact that these novel ideas are championed by cerebral, selfless, compassionate, charitable, and professional achievers, albeit politicians, signposts the possible immortality of the ideas. The ideas are brilliant.
“As I drilled further down into Senator Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’, I remembered all I knew about the 17 UNSDGs (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals).
“It is interesting that the ‘#DoingGood’ strategically fits into more than 10 of the 17 UNSDGs. For example, UNSDG-1 wants NO poverty; UNSDG-2 canvasses for ZERO hunger; and so on. Those are some of the objectives of Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’. I am only unable to connect Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’ to just three (3) of the seventeen (17) UNSDGs. Those three are UNSDG-13 (climate action), UNSDG-14 (life below water), and UNSDG-15 (life on land). As all these will be important to the distinguished Senator because they are all relevant to Lagos East, in particular, and the entire Lagos State in general. My guess is that the distinguished Senator has actions planned on them, especially through COMPACT facilitation and possibly, legislation.
“Definitely, Lagos, being a littoral state because of its border with the Bight of Benin, and having the massive Lagos lagoon, and with its small landmass, must take UNSDG-14 and UNSDG-15 as important strategic goals.
Examining the achievements of Sen. Abiru since his emergence as the Senator representing Lagos East, the group said that his legislation and innovative interventions will not only impact on his senatorial district, but also the country at large.
“So far, so great, Senator Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’ has achieved many feats:
“Legislations: Distinguished Senator Abiru has contributed at least 15 bills which are in different stages. Two of them stood out for ĺme. 1. The Franchise Regulation Bill 2022 which, in my opinion, will propel the Franchise business in Nigeria; 2. The Federal Polytechnic Epe (Establishment etc) Bill 2021. His motion (also passionately pushed by JB at the House of Representatives) on the urgent need to rehabilitate Ikorodu-Sagamu and Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe roads appears successful”, the statement said.
“Innovative Interventions: Just like the general ‘DoingGood’, the ‘SAIL’ (Senator Abiru Innovation Lab) is an excellent idea. By now, about 500 constituents must have been on board and trained in modern business and digital technology. 2023 promises more for the tech enthusiasts in our constituency. The benefits of this idea cannot be overemphasized.
“Anyone who is not awed by the Lagos East 6% Interest, =N=300 million Constituency Revolving Loan 4 MSME made possible by Senator Abiru is not doing good. The package caters for 4 to 5 categories of constituents so that a large number of constituents can benefit. You and I are just an application away from getting our businesses financed by this package”, it added.
“The Bursary 600 was another emblematic initiative – its novelty is the spread and caliber of beneficiaries. The Senator is evidently passionate about this one. He thinks this is “… to once again reignite hope in those in despair. BAT’s ‘Renewed Hope’ comes to mind immediately.
While stating that the #DoingGood Senator has a more impacting and innovative agenda for his people, the LeAp management added they are also sustainable.
It called on the electorate in Lagos East Senatorial District to renew his mandate by voting him again in the next general elections.
“So Much More… The ‘DoingGood’ Senator has his hands full. Well, that is the hallmark of people who do good, want to do good, and keep doing good. He is seriously pushing hard and smart for infrastructural upgrades. He gives monthly constituency financial support just like he gave Covid19 financial relief to constituents”, it said.
“Clearly, Abiru’s ‘DoingGood’ has depth, reach, and embedded sustainability. Therefore, our votes must be massive for him. Senator Abiru does not hoodwink, he will deliver so much more than he promises.
“All we need is to renew his mandate and our hope will be renewed. VOTE Senator Abiru”, the group appealed.
