Veteran Journalist, Prince Henry Ojoye Is Dead

Many in Ikorodu have expressed sadness over the death of a veteran journalist, Prince Henry Ojoye, when the news of his death filtered in Friday. He was 62.

He was, until his death, the Publisher of the Digest Magazine.

It was gathered that he gave up the ghost on Monday.

Ojoye, popularly called ‘Omoye’, worked with the Guardian newspaper and other national dailies. He later worked with a regional news medium, New Nigeria (now defunct) owned by the wife of late Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Olori Muyibat Oyefusi, before venturing into community journalism where he worked with many community mediums.

He was at a time, an Editor with the Factor newsmagazine in Ikorodu, before moving to Shagamu to continue his journalism engagement with his Digest magazine he founded in Ikorodu several years back.

He also consulted and helped in nurturing many magazines into life.

Announcing the death of the veteran journalist, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter, in a statement signed by the Union’s Secretary, Bunmi Adigun, said that he played active role in the emergence of its current executives.

“Mr Henry Ojoye played an active role in the emergence of the current union executives, and promised to stand by the union to achieve all its dreams, but unfortunately, death took him away ”, the statement said.

“Mr Ojoye was with colleagues at Iwe Iroyin, the Union’s Secretariat, till noon before he left for Sagamu and, thereafter, the union received the sad news in the night”.

Late Ojoye was a member of the League of Journalists, Ikorodu.
