QS. AbdulAzeez Adekunle Awesu, a contender for the Ikorodu House of Representatives seat in the National Assembly in Abuja, has stated that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will win all available positions in Ikorodu come 2023 General Elections.
Awesu, who is currently at the Supreme Court to reclaim his mandate given to Mr AbdulKareem Shittu through judgements of the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, also described the Labour Party as a distraction.
The young politician spoke with THE IMPACT during the rally he convened to mobilise support for the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and other candidates of the party in Ikorodu, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
“If you ask me if I want to be sincere with you, PDP is going to floor APC. You know that Beavers have come to stay and trust me, there is no way for any back door that other political parties are going to follow. As far as I am concerned, PDP is taking over Lagos State by the grace of God, and I am saying this and saying it with confident”, he said.
Speaking on the emergence of the Labour Party, Awesu described the party as a distraction
“I tell you, the Labour Party are trying their best, but they are just a distraction, PDP all the way. I am sure if you do random sampling even on the road, and you take an opinion poll on whom the people would rather vote for, a lot of people will tell you PDP, though, some will say Labour Party. Check the number of people around you here today, we have a large number of the youths, women; both old and young, willing to take back what is theirs. I am sure that success is definitely ours”, Awesu said.
On political apathy, the PDP contender said that people don’t have any reason not to come out to vote
“They don’t even have a reason not to come out because we did a lot of mobilization during the pre – registration exercise. The first thing that we did as far back as last year was telling people why they needed to register in the first place. If you don’t, there is no way that you are going to have your PVC. But if you check, I can say for a fact that there is no other Local Government that surpasses Ikorodu, and if there is any, they will probably be one or two”, he said.
“Ikorodu had one of the highest numbers of unregistered voters before our intervention, but we have been able to turn that around, courtesy myself and the PDP in Ikorodu. We were able to make that happen. Lots of people knew what they went through in registering for their PVCs, and I see no reason why they would not want to go and collect their PVCs. That is what I am telling you for sure, Ikorodu is taken. O ti lo (Ikorodu has gone)”.
Speaking on his effort to retrieve his mandate at the Supreme Court, Awesu said that he’s sure that justice will be done in giving him back his mandate as the candidate of the party, but if not, he will continue to work for the victory of the PDP.
“I know that a lot of things are happening to discourage us to do more than what we are doing. If it was at the pace that we were going before we had the litigations and all of that, I should be probably be having times two or three of this crowd, but because of the litigations which I am sure that by the grace of God, Supreme Court will do justice to where justice should be”, he said.
“I see nowhere something is built on nothing. The present House of Representatives candidate (of the PDP in Ikorodu) is building something on nothing, but then, if truly we have justice in Nigeria, we should let justice take its course, but if not, PDP is my family and my party, I will stick to it, and we move on. Aluta continua, Victoria ascerta”, Awesu stated.
