Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, the Executive Chairman of the Ikorodu Local Government.

Contrary to the expectations of the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, that his gesture of doling out cash worth N1million and N1.5mmilion worth of food items to residents of Ikorodu will receive massive acceptance from the populace,  the deeds have backfired.

Adeshina also stated that he presented several vehicles to Councilors and members of his management team, but silence on the cost involved.

The Chairman claimed that the food items and cash were donated to widows and aged drawn from the various wards in Ikorodu Local Government.

These were contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Adebisi Muhammed A., which the council boss posted on THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform with multiple photographs on Thursday.

However, Comrade Julius Aladepupo Oloyede, a social commentator, responding instantly to the Chairman’s post, queried the rationale behind Hon. Adeshina’s N2.5 cash and food items to many residents while few political office holders and members of the council’s management team were given cars worth multimillion of naira.

“#2.5 million for the electorate, Millions upon millions for their councillors!!!”, he exclaimed.

“Ikorodu as a community is not serious in the most important ways.

“Appalling and dehumanising!!! This shameful show must STOP!”, Oloyede added.

A political operative and public analyst, Mr Olalekan Durojaiye, also contributing, said that:

“Heavy budgets for those that are already empowered while the main electorates should be contented with those ‘take aways’ for immediate survival. Make una continue to dance ooo…..”, he said.

Mr Monday Ohi Obadan, a community developer and social media influencer, also condemned what he termed intimidating and dehumanizing to the general public.

“…even if it is “statutory” to provide councillors and supervisors official vehicles, it is intimidating and dehumanizing to flaunt the “palliatives” alongside the presentation of the vehicles. O wrong nah!”, he stated unequivocally.

Alhaji Fatai Adewale Gbadamosi, Chairman, Selewu CDA, also commenting, said that it was wrong of the Chairman to embark on such show – off which he said is awfully wrong.

“The timing for this show off is awfully wrong. At a time when the majority of the electorates are jobless and hungry, you are flaunting SUV’s for councillors in an ‘in your face’ kind of manner, when another election is around the corner. This can anger the masses to react negatively with their votes. This local government chairman should learn to be sensitive of the times”, he said

“What is the job description and job specification of a councillor, what is the requisite qualifications to be a councillor to merit SUVs along with fat salaries? This sort of system is not designed to be productive, Walahi”, he added.
