-Calls for appointment of an Ikorodu man as LASUED VC
The Agbaakin of Ikorodu Division and former Commissioner for Information, Sir (IOtunba) Ayodele O. Elesho, KJW, has denied that the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, is an Ikorodu indigene.
The highly respected community leader was reacting to the statement of Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo – Olu, the Governor of Lagos State who allegedly said that the VC of the new University based in Ikorodu, is an indigene of the Division in his speech at his investiture as the Grand Patron of the Oriwu Club in Ikorodu on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
In a statement signed by Sir Elesho on Monday, the former State Labour Chairman said that the VC had during his courtesy visit to the Ayangbure palace in Ikorodu some weeks back, claimed that he’s from Epe, adding that the Governor must have been misinformed to make the statement.
Sir Elesho also called on the governor to address the injustice done to Ikorodu with the appointment of a non Ikorodu indigene as LASUSTECH VC, by appointing some someone from Ikorodu as the VC of the Lagos State University of Education, stating that the Division is blessed with array of scholars capable and qualified to fill the position.
“Information at my disposal indicates that our amiable State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu said yesterday at Oriwu Club, lkorodu, that the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of LASUSTECH lkorodu, Prof Odusanya is an indigene of Ikorodu Division”, Sir Elesho said.
“I wish to say emphatically with all honesty in me and the powers at my disposal that, that the information is absolutely not correct and that the Governor must have been wrongly briefed.
“During the courtesy visit of the Vice Chancellor to HRM Ayangbure of Ikorodu Oba Kabiru Shotobi where l was not only physically present, but anchored the programme of events, the Vice Chancellor himself Prof Odusanya confirmed openly that he is an indigine of Igboye town, in Epe division”, he recalled.
“This is the absolute truth about the matter.
Asking the Gov. Sanwo – Olu to redress the wrong and treat Ikorodu fairly like other Divisions which have been considered as VCs, Sir Elesho pleaded with the Governor to consider a qualified scholar from Ikorodu as VC for LASUED.
“My final position is that, an indigene of Ikorodu Division should be appointed pioneer Vice Chancellor of LASUED”, he asked.
“We need not emphasis the fact that Ikorodu Division has a number of prima facie and highly qualified Professors that can occupy the position of Vice Chancellor of LASUED and perfectly deliver.
“The State Government should be fair to Ikorodu Division on this appointment, moreso that other Divisions in the State have been fairly treated in respect of various appointments into our Ivory Towers.
“We know our Governor to be a God fearing and honestly transparent leader who believes very much in Truth, Fair play and Social Justice”, he added.
