Young Deji Lambo, a senior correspondent with the Punch Newspaper, has emerged as the Photojournalist of the Year at the 17th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.
The Ikorodu – born journalist was honoured alongside 12 others for their contributions in investigative journalism at the award ceremony held in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday.
Hassan Adebayo of Premium Times won the overall investigative journalist of the year and the best investigative story for the online category.
Motunrayo Alaka, the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, WSVOJ, said the 13 finalists were selected out of the 218 applications received for the award.
Lambo, won the award with his investigative story in which he used several pictures that showed the hazard of ponmo (cow leather) consumption in the country.
Among other winners were: Juliana Francis of the New Telegraph (best investigative journalist in the Print category), Babatunde Okunlola (best investigative journalist in the Radio category), Abdulaziz Abdulaziz with the Trust TV (best TV investigative report) and Victor Asowata of The Will (editorial cartoon of the year).
Announcing the award on his social media handles, Deji Lambo wrote:
“I am happy to announce that I emerged winner for the Photojournalism Category at the 2022 Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting. I dedicate this award to God, the entire management of PUNCH Newspapers, and the Lambo dynasty”.
