After about one year that the six council chairmen in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, informed the public that they are working on establishing an Ikorodu Division Security Trust Fund, as the body constitutional empowered to do so, residents have again be assured that the initiative will soon be launched.
The spokesperson of the group, Builder Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, disclosed this during the maiden edition of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Security Summit/2nd Anniversary of the formation of the council’s Local Joint Security Task Force, at the Adeboruwa palace in Igbogbo, on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
Daini also stated that the six councils are perfecting necessary laws to constitutionally establish the security framework.
The council bosses in the Division had at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat office of Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, which is the eve of the formal launching of the present security architecture operational in the Division, announced their plans to have a security trust fund and joint security task force.
At the second anniversary of the formation of the LJSTF at the Adeboruwa palace, Daini disclosed that the plans to have a common bye – law to create operational guidelines for the modus operandi of the councils, are nearing conclusion.
“We are planning a joint law for the security operations in Ikorodu (Division). The law will tell us about the modus operandi of our local security agencies in Ikorodu as enshrined in the constitution”, he said.
“We will equally be looking at how to get support which is going to be through the establishment of a trust fund for everybody to contribute to. Through this, you can support us for our community to be safer; you can support us so that we all can sleep at night and you can support us so that we can have (enabling environment for) good businesses and you can support so that we can have good movement”, he appealed.
Speaking on the LJSTF he created two years ago in his council, Builder Daini said that the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, under his administration, has been paying the salaries of the security personnel to encourage and motivate them to be committed to policing the community.
He also said that the council has concluded plans with LASACO to give 53 security personnel serving in the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA LJSTF, life insurance.
