Another 30 students from Ikorodu have been presented with scholarship awards through the repackaged education support scheme by the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS).
The beneficiaries comprised of 10 existing beneficiaries and new ones who are both indigenes and residents picked on merit. They were presented a cheque of N100, 000 each at the grand finale of the Ikorodu – Oga Day at the Ayangbure palace, Ikorodu, on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
The scholarship award have received new sponsorships from two lkorodu families which are sponsoring the award on behalf of late parents: Alhaja Sabalemotu Erogbogbo ( sponsoring only indigent female scholars) and late Alhaji & Alhaja Yinusa Olawale (joining the two existing sponsors: AGL Delightsome Scholarship and Late Alhaji Jimoh Owode Longe Adedoyin Scholarship).
This year, AGL Delightsome had already sponsored 30 students for Jamb and 19 students for GCE.
“During the 31st Ikorodu Oga Festival, another thirty undergraduates were offered scholarships in the sum of N100,000.00 each and shall continue to get the cash support if they keep up their excellent academic standings. This year’s scholarship was sponsored by four partners”, Mr Abolaji Seun Elesho, Secretary, IKODASS and the Scholarship board, said.
“Recall that during the Ikorodu-Oga Festival in 2021, the IKODASS, through its partnership with AGL Delightsome and Late Ahlaji Lonege Adedoyin family, awarded N100,000 each to 10 Ikorodu indigenes and residents”.
The IKODASS Scholarship board is chaired by Dr. (Otunba) Saheed Oladapo Ibikunle with Mr Dr Fatai Abiodun Abatan and Mr Kemi Fatuga Kotola as members.
Many of the beneficiaries thanked the IKODASS and sponsors for the support.
Meanwhile, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Lagos State University Governing Council, Sir David Olabanji Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, at this year’s Ikorodu-Oga, was honoured with Merit award, and afterwards pledged to also be part of the scheme next year.
Dedicating the award to the youths in Ikorodu, Sir Sunmoni also announced that he will be partnering with IKODASS to give scholarship awards to students.
“I am happy with this award and I want to use this opportunity to encourage the youths. The sky is not their limit and there is no challenge that you cannot rise up to once you are dedicated, face your work and pray”, Sir Sunmoni said.
“I want to dedicate the award to all the youths in Ikorodu Division; to encourage; challenge and admonish them that the sky is not their limit and they must always look forward to a day that they will stand before Kings to be honoured.
“By the grace of God, I will contribute to the IKODASS Scholarship and by next when they are calling the names of donors, my name too will be called”, the awardee pledged.
