The call for the elevation of the General Hospital (GH), Ikorodu, which has been ranked one of the best, if not the best in the state, to a teaching hospital status, has continued to increase.
The latest call was coming from no mean person but the Agbaakin of Ikorodu, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, KJW.
Sir Elesho, who is a former Commissioner for Information and former number one Labour leader in the state, said that the upgrading is imperative because of the unparalleled and consistent achievements of the hospital in discharging adequate services and more so, now that Ikorodu is a University city.
Aside from the Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH) that the community leader mentioned, there is also the Caleb University, Imota, which offers medicine courses, and which the upgrading of the general hospital will serve.
The call by Otunba Elesho was contained in a response signed by Sir Elesho to the report published by THE IMPACT on the Best Compliant Hospital on Service Charter award presented to the hospital early last week by the Office of Transformation, Creativity & Innovation, Lagos State Government.
“The good people of Ikorodu are happy with the latest achievements of the General Hospital, Ikorodu, under the fantastic administration and leadership of Dr Taiwo Hassan, the Medical Director and Chief Executive of the Hospital”, Sir Elesho said while commending the hospital’s Director.
“Within a space of few years, Dr Taiwo Hassan has positively turned around the services of all the Departments, Sections & Units of the Hospital for excellent and adequate service delivery.
“The latest award for the Hospital by the Lagos State Government owned Office of Transformation, Creativity & Innovation as the Best Compliant Hospital on Service Charter Demands for year 2022, coupled with the fact that our own Dr Taiwo Hassan has been adjudged as the best Charter Service Director for the period 2014 – 2022, are great news.
“These are giant strides and great achievements in the history of General Hospital, lkorodu, since it was established in 1983 by late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the then Governor of Lagos State”.
He, therefore, charged the state government to consider the achievements and level attained by the hospital and upgrade it to a teaching hospital.
“With the unparalleled achievements of the management of the hospital and the level it has attained, it is high time the State Government proclaim and elevate the hospital to become a TEACHING HOSPITAL, more so, that lkorodu is now a University town, with the newly established Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH) which has its main Campus here in lkorodu”, Sir Elesho said.
“I, therefore, join Kabiyesi Ayangbure, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi and the good people of Ikorodu, to congratulate the management of the hospital and pray for more excellent groundbreaking achievements and more wins.
“Hearty Congratulations”.
