Prof. Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science & Technology (LASUSTECH), has said that visitations embarked upon by the institution are to seek cooperation and progress for the newly established University and its host community.
Odusanya, who is the first substantive Vice Chancellor of the LASUSTECH, led other management members to visit the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Barr. Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa (Oba) Engr. Kabir Adewale Shotobi and Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashir Shotonwa, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.
The VC, who had top management members of the institutions in his entourage among whom were Dr Olumide Metilelu, DVC, Mr Maumo Jinadu, Bursar and Mr Lanre Kuye, Director, Information and Public Relations, spoke with THE IMPACT on the objective of the visitations after paying a courtesy to the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
Aremo Adesegun Ogunlewe, former Head of Service, Lagos State, represented the institution’s Governing Council during the tour.
“We came to see Kabiyesi, it shows that we recognise the importance of the traditional institutions; we came to appreciate him and solicit the cooperation of the people at all time. Igbogbo will become a partner for peace and progress and a stakeholder in the development of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology”, the VC said.
Responding to the requests made by Oba Kasali and others that would be made in the course of visitations to other palaces, Prof. Odusanya said that the institution, under his own leadership, will continually engage its community and assist her in its development.
“Once we have the common goal, we will come together. The University will grow. Harvard, which was established over 400 years ago, didn’t start everything all together. As we start, every other thing will come up and we will together decide”, he said.
“It’s not a matter of citing more campuses, rather, it’s more about engaging the community in whatever that we are doing and making sure that they understand science and use it to their own benefits, that is what a University should be doing. It’s a fountain of knowledge and so, we can teach people in many ways that will be of benefits to the community.
On his expectations from the tour, Prof. Odusanya said:
“We are expecting contributions to the development of the University; maintenance of peace and order and telling us what they want and how the University can become better”, he said.
