-Charge stakeholders on abandoned vocational centre
Youths in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, under the aegis of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has called on the community to make available a land for the construction of Mini – Stadium.
The youths that said that such infrastructure would aid their development.
They made the call in commemoration of the National Youth Day.
In a statement issued by the Coordinator, NYCN, Ikorodu West LCDA chapter, Comrade Asoro Abubakri Olatunji and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Anuoluwapo Taiwo, the youths explained that the sporting facility was promised by the Director – General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr Oluwatoyin Gafaar Bolowotan, who asked the the community to make available a land for the purpose.
They also charged the council to ensure that the vocational centre at lpakodo that is moribund, is resuscitated for the use of the youths.
“A day such as the National Youth Day provides us the opportunity to reflect on issues that affect the youths. The most often discussed is the issue of unemployment which definitely deserves attention, youths must also be trained to become employable and suitable for jobs”, the statement said.
“Aside this, the issues of infrastructural facilities that help the youths to achieve their potentials, is also germane. One of such is the Ebute Empowerment Centre which was initially designed to skill up te youths. The redundancy of the facility is becoming too protracted.
“It’s, therefore, in order at a time like this to call for swift intervention by stakeholders to ensure the centre returns to its glorious days”, they charged.
“Last year, we got a promise of a mini stadium from the Director GGeneral of the Lagos State Sport Commission, Hon Toyin Gafar Bolowotan and facilities like this have the ability to discovering new talents among youths.
“It’s important that such opportunity should not be missed on the basis of lack of land. Stakeholders must work together to secure our future. It’s unfortunate that this future is tied to a piece of land which should naturally not be a problem where there is proper planning and reservation of lands for infrastructural development”, NYCN added.
