Following expression of displeasure by the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson, who facilitated the reconstruction of Igbe/Oreyo road and the consequent outcry that trailed the damages in some sections of it due to lack of maintenance, the authority of the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has begun the evacuation of the drains.
The council is evacuating the drains as agreed at a meeting held about two weeks ago at the De Sleek Hotel between the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA led by the Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini and the Chairmen of the nine Igbe communities.
The drains, which have been left unattended to, caused the road to be flooded whenever it rains and this has been partly responsible for the damages.
THE IMPACT had reported that the authority of the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Igbe community parleyed and agreed on ways to ensure the maintenance of Igbe road.
It was agreed that the council will take the first step, and subsequently, the nine CDAs will take control, and report regularly to the LCDA.
Mr Dauda Oshinlaja, the Supervisory Councilor for Environment, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, who supervised the evacuation, assured that sand and dirt evacuated will be carted away, when he spoke with our reporter at Albert Aluko junction during the exercise.

“You can see that Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA is working. You wrote about this in your story and here we are working on the drains by evacuating sands and dirt and we are going to cart them away”, he said.
“The Chairman, who led other members of his cabinet and other officials of the council on tour of the road has seen the challenges and has also directed the Council Engineer on how to stabilize the road, especially the points where it has been damaged.
“Very soon, you will see more of the council on the road”, he added.
To sustain this exercise as agreed at the parley, the community development associations in Igbe are expected to mobilise members of the community every third Thursday of the month to clear the drainages on both sides of the road while the council will be responsible for the evacuation of the waste removed from the drainages.
