The new leadership of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC) is ready to hit the ground running as it has announced some of its agenda for youths and Igbogbo community.
Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, in his acceptance speech at the inauguration of the new executives on Monday, October 3, unveiled his administration’s agenda.
Ogunumyiwa, who acknowledged the impacts of elders of Igbogbo that developed the community and many others that have been projecting the community at the state, national and international levels, called for unity and synergy amongst various interest groups and members of the community to further develop Igbogbo.
Among his agenda are: vocational training for youths, career talk with students, partnering with National Orientation for sensitisation on drug abuse and embarking on fund raising to fund projects that would impact the youths and the society at large.
“Fellow members, the tasks of achieving a more prosperous present and future of Igbogbo Kingdom are on us. The tasks are numerous and mighty, yet they are very achievable. But we must put on our thinking caps”, he said.
“We have to keep working together within a structure that is devoid of all acts of bitterness, and enmity. It is an established fact that our respectful synergy is responsible for the amazing progress we have made in recent times, most specifically for our darling kingdom.
While calling for unity and synergy in achieving greatness for Igbogbo, Ogunumyia said:
“With absolute respect to everyone here, and elsewhere today, the synergy is dying. This is coming at a time that we need more than enough of the synergy to collectively achieve the Igbogbo of our dream.
“I stand before this honourable gathering today to remind every youth of Igbogbo Kingdom that the time is now for us to be more united for our kingdom, and for individual growth and development. Our unity, our synergy, our brotherhood are sacrosanct.
“As a matter of fact, this new executive council is formed as a result of negotiation, understanding, love, sacrifice, and togetherness. I implore each and every one of us to exhibit those exemplary traits always as members of the coalition and believers for the progress of Igbogbo kingdom”, he charged.
Unveiling his administration’s agenda, the new IYC President said:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I assure you that this administration has configured itself to ensure continuity of the meaningful achievements of the last administration. Participation of individual members of this group in Igbogbo Day celebration is natural, and we won’t stop at that”, he said.
“Undoubtedly, a great measure of an administration is its impacting programmes for the members, and the society by extension. This administration is poised to sponsor some members to learn skill acquisition at the Igbogbo Vocational Centre; this will be backed up with empowerment packages. The enrolment will start this year as soon as the process of registration of new artisans becomes known to the public”.
On education and campaign against drugs, he said:
“A society can never be sane and progressive when her education is retrogressing – the roles of formal and informal education in development remain uncontestable. With education comes the right career. The choice of career and availability of the right mentorship can have a long lasting effect on an individual’s lifestyle. Having said that, before the end of this year, the coalition will tour all the public secondary schools in the Kingdom on the need to choose a path to a comfortable lifetime”, he said.
“The novelty aspect of the program includes the use of some of the alumni of the schools to talk to the students. We are also going to use our members as speakers during this program. This is because we have bright and capable sons and daughters of the land, and we are proud of them.
“Meanwhile, talks are seriously at the top level to organise a rally and lecture in collaboration with the Nigerian Orientation Agency on the danger of drug abuse.”Good guys” on the street and bases will be the focal centres of this campaign against grievous effects of drugs and harmful substances in the life of the people.
He called on every stakeholders in Igbogbo to support IYC with funds for execution of what he called ‘transformational projects’.
“Determination without focus, is like a delicious food without salt. For us, the importance of focus in our activities is as high as Mount Everest. Our dear IYC will set steps in motion to raise special funding for executing some transformational projects, one of which is education”, he said.
“We, therefore, appeal to our fathers, mothers, leaders, brothers and sisters to shower their benevolence on the coalition when we call. I assure you that a penny taken from the Coalition’s wealth will be accounted for, and will only be used for meaningful purpose”, Ogunmuyiwa appealed.
