Spaeking on the roles of a father, a topic discussed during the pep talk session, Elseho said that as head of the family, man plays crucial roles in keeping the family together and building of the larger community.
“According to Billy Graham, “A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society”, Elesho quoted.
“The power of a father in the life of the family has no match. It is on this bedrock, the Executives of the I- Heroes organized a pep talk on fatherhood. We believe that we can not give what we do not have, in our quest for contributing to National Development and to our immediate Ikorodu Division, we agreed that national development starts from the smallest unit of the society which is the family.
“We believe that the father plays a lot and critical role in the building of a responsible family. Our love for our women and children and our sense of responsibility encourage us to seek knowledge on how to be a better father”.
Mr Frank Adenuga , a public speaker and a professional family life coach in his paper on the discourse, exposed members of the organization to important issues in the family and community at large.
Speaking on the topic, “The Discipline of Fatherhood”, Adenuga said that fatherhood confers on men great responsibilities.
“Anyone can father a child, not every father is daddy. Being a daddy takes a lifetime. You can be a father and yet be a disgrace to fatherhood. Therefore, there is a difference between being a father and understanding the principles of fatherhood”, he said.
“Fathers play an important role in every child’s life that cannot be filled by others. This role can have a large impact on a child and help shapes him or her into the person they become.
“Father means ‘the Source’. Sharing the same responsibilities and title with God Almighty who is the source of all things, Gen. 1 and 2″.
He said that research has shown that when father is affectionate and supportive, it greatly affects a cognitive and social development of the child.
While stating that the problem of social decadence in the society today can be traced to homes, the speaker said that the head of the homes are to be held responsible for the decadence.
He charged fathers not to abandon their children because they cherishe fathers, so, creates quality time out of your tight schedule to be with your children, desist from disrespecting your wives and from practicing favouritism among children.
